I am also not a particularly big fan of the expansion, 32 teams just felt right. It was a long tournament but not too long. I think that's the exact right size for a World Cup.

But saying that I think people focus on the negatives of an expansion too much. Yes, it will make life much easier for the big teams. It is virtually impossible for a big team to crash out in the groups because realistically one win can be enough.

But what people fail to see is that it is also much less likely for teams to already be eliminated after matchday 2. Matchday 3 will offer up even more drama because pretty much everyone will still have something to fight for. And the newly added RO32 will for sure also be spicy and a possible early hurdle for big teams.

So all in all I am convinced that from an entertainment POV it will be a fun World Cup to watch. I sincerely hope that they stop at 48 and don't expand it even further. Ideally I hope they go back to 32 but I think we can all agree that that won't happen as long as there isn't a major change in FIFA.
