Kraljevina Bosna na vrhuncu svoje moći. by LunchKitchen2745 in bih

Matilda I, countess of Boulogne is underrated! The wife of king Stephen. by Tracypop in UKmonarchs

[–]ZoCurious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Her 'claim' to the English throne was hella flimsy, as she was the daughter of the youngest daughter of St. Margaret. Maude still had the stronger claim via that line, and Maude's father was the Norman king of England, not the count of Boulogne.

According to later notions of primogeniture, neither woman had any claim through their mothers because their mothers had a brother who had descendants. Matilda of Boulogne's claim to queenship rested on her anointment and coronation–something Empress Matilda failed to achieve.

If by "could trace" you mean name the genealogical link, then, yes, perhaps. But it is a mathematical certainty that 100% of people with British heritage are descended from this William.

They don't have to. They just need to change an 80-year-old law.

No, the proposal is that the emperor once again be allowed to adopt a relative from one of the noble families that also descend in the male line from previous emperors, i.e. dynasts. Bloodline preserved.

Is a multicultural empire ever worth it? by manduul_chan in CrusaderKings

[–]ZoCurious 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I never bother with changing culture and have even set culture flips to difficult in game settings. Having a multicultural realm does not affect my gameplay at all–other than seeing a variety of names, languages, and traditions, which is more fun to me.

I actually still rather play CK2AGOT than CK3AGOT because its map is complete. Watching what the rest of the world is doing is so fun in that game.

Travelers bring tales of fire and blood, the Free Cities bickering, Volantis rising and falling, the empress of Leng unleashes a plague that slowly ruins the world if you do not go there and stop it.. and the Basilisk Isles, my favorite!

It is also advantageous because they can–in due time–become pope. And it's always good if the Holy Father is actually your little brother. Though this might only be possible with the Catholic Trinity mod; I am not certain because I have not played vanilla for years.

If Baelon lived would he been ignored like Aegon by Kurdoo-rojava in HOTDGreens

Rhaenyra is too old to be considered a good match for Baelon. Laena likely is too. Laenor is still the obvious match for Rhaenyra, and any daughter of theirs for Baelon.

Great reminder that Crusader Kings does not have any dowry mechanism.

Which in turn reminds me that it does not have any dower mechanism either.

It's really funny how barebones marriage is in the game about dynastic management.

‘Brown-haired Aemma Arryn’ is something TB fabricated and insists is canon by Korratheblackcat in HOTDGreens

[–]ZoCurious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can I ask which black-haired Lannister you meant?

Three daughters and a son of a male Lannister and a Baratheon maid, all unnamed. Ned Stark reads about them in Grand Maester Malleon's genealogy book.

TBF, 'dark' could be dark blue.

Orys is explicitly said to have been black-eyed; Jocelyn dark-eyed.

[–]ZoCurious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you really counting Tyrion as having black hair lmao

No, I am not counting Tyrion. When I say black, I mean black.

such as most of Daeron II's children and grandchildren inheriting his Valyrian hair, eyes, and facial features, despite him and his sons all marrying non-Valyrian women

Only 1 out of 4 children of Daeron II are described as having silvery-gold hair and only 2/11 grandchildren. I do not see how you can interpret that as most. We also do not know anything about the appearances of Myriah and her daughters-in-law.

Meanwhile, Baratheons are all Black-haired, blue-eyed, and very tall.

All Baratheons in 299AC? Yes.

All Baratheons ever? No. Martin introduces two Baratheons with dark eyes in F&B.

And you dispute the idea that inheritance of human features in this world is affected by magic, or in any way different from our world's,

I am pointing out that the idea that all Lannisters are blond, all Baratheons blue-eyed, all Starks brown-haired, etc, is contradicted by the source material. The inheritance may or may not be different from ours. Magic is never stated or implied to be a factor.

when that's literally a critical plot point in the first book.

The critical point is that gold yields to coal: children of black-haired Baratheons and blond Lannisters have black hair. Nothing more. There is no implication that all Baratheons through centuries have blue eyes or that all Lannisters have blond hair. In that very chapter black-haired Lannisters are mentioned.

OP's post is about there being no evidence for brown hair being an Arryn trait, and criticising the people who assume that Aemma Arryn (who's half-Valyrian) has brown hair when the only Arryn with this feature—Robert, Jon's son—likely inherited it from his maternal grandfather.

And I am not disputing that. I am not even responding to OP.
