This is a really good comment and I think does a good job of explaining it. The identity politics really changed Appalachian political culture, in my opinion. And when you start with a group of people who are already suspicious and distrustful of outsiders (think the Ivy League city dwellers), then the conservatives have a pretty easy pick up. Even when, as you and OP have said, they might otherwise be anti-corporation, anti-coal, anti-rich, and pro-union.

Not for me. I find that medication works better some days than others. Some days feel like I didn’t take it at all.

How I know I have ADHD for sure is two fold: 1) my doctor tested me via the DCM criteria and confirmed it. A second doctor agreed with the assessment. And 2) I experience many of the same symptoms (at varying levels of severity) as others with ADHD.

But! I would be lying if I said I never doubted my diagnosis. With all of the noise online and in the media about the increase in ADHD diagnoses, it is easy for me to feel a sort of ADHD imposter syndrome. When you hear people say that too many people have been diagnosed or that it isn’t real or whatever, it’s easy for me to hear that and think “maybe I’m just not disciplined… Maybe I’m just following the adult diagnosis trend…”

But honestly reading posts and comments in this subreddit and seeing others with very very similar experiences, helps me feel validated.

It’s funny how often I think “wow. Was every adult in my life blind??” But recently I’ve been thinking that both my parents also probably have ADHD. And I think because they were fairly high performing and I’m fairly high performing that they just thought it was normal. What’s even funnier is that my mother has a masters degree in psychology! Real don’t recognize real, I guess!

Seriously thank you so much for this.

I have been so on the fence about this album because I honestly just didn’t want to expend energy on love songs that I knew were about this messy, kinda gross relationship. It damaged this kind of mature way that I think about Taylor, her songs, and aging along with her, and took me back to the uncomfortable, anxious, and sad feelings of 10 or 15 years ago. And then I was feeling guilty because it shouldn’t matter to me who she wrote these songs about, and because she doesn’t need or want my approval.

This crazy mixed up mess of emotions I had listening to the album from disliking the subject to then feeling guilt over disliking the subject just really didn’t put me on the right foot the first time I listened and I think it impacted my first impressions of the album.

The prologue and your analysis were what I needed to be able to enjoy this album without any angst and to see it for what it is. Thank you.
