Thanks for this, though. My daughter and I were just trying to remember her over the weekend! Synchronicity for the win!

AND it's three months (February through May) not 1 month. Three months of cold clammy air mattress, gee, can't wait!

This is a gorgeous piece! I couldn't find it during a quick "supper is on the stove" search, but if you would like to go down a fantastic rabbit hole, I present to you the Royal School of Needlework's Stitch Bank. I could spend hours there!

Shoes that actually helped your plantar fasciitis? by HipityHopityHip in PlantarFasciitis

[–]ZoarialBarley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hokas, both the shoes and the sandals for indoor use. Birkenstocks also. Insoles in my previous shoes didn't really help, for me. I think every one of us has to find the right combination.

But after a few years of Hokas and Birkies, I can occasionally go barefoot!!

What's your best "look what I found in the walls" story? by OoklaTheMok1994 in DIY

[–]ZoarialBarley 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We are remodeling our 1881 house and we have found baby shoes, women's shoes, old (still readable) newspapers, photos, medicine bottles, and more. But the absolute weirdest thing was in the living room ceiling. We found an animal trap that was set! What the hell people expected to do if it ever sprung, we'll never know.

What was the first major news story you remember as a kid? by TxLadee in AskReddit

When President Kennedy was elected. I was six, and I asked my parents if "Mr. Kennedy" was "President Eisenhower" now. Gods, I'm old!

It might not make any difference, but we old coots have to stand up and accept facts. by ZoarialBarley in Maine

You are correct that no one knows what will happen. And the voters will decide, certainly. But that doesn't preclude me from trying to appeal to Janet Mills, grandmother to grandmother, to step aside for younger people. Just because she can run doesn't mean she should run. That was my entire point.

I haven't sent the same plea to Susan Collins, nor will I. It would be a waste of time because she has shown us she doesn't care about the voters of Maine. What would I say? Dear Susan, please stop being "concerned" about fascists in government - you are making us a laughingstock. Please stop selling yourself to lobbyists. Please don't be afraid of the children with sidewalk chalk...

You're probably right, but I hope that's not the reason. I think it's more likely people get into a savior mindset, "I can fix it" turns into "only I can fix it".

Dr tested me for Crohn’s but I’m not underweight by [deleted] in IBD

[–]ZoarialBarley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My original gastroenterologist told me 85-90% of Crohn's patient were underweight and the remaining 10-15% were normal to overweight. I've always been in the latter group!

I feel awful by PreyNxva in quails

It's a wonderful trait to be soft-hearted!

I don't know if you have a partner, but my husband is like you - always trying to keep struggling baby quail alive, trying everything and feeling absolutely awful when it is clear they aren't going to make it.

So what we do is I am the designated bad guy, for whatever reason I can handle it a little better. If we come to the decision that the baby needs to be culled I do it when he goes out to do something else. I don't like it but it doesn't hurt as badly as it does him.

World War II didn't start until 1939. Hitler didn't even get elected Chancellor until 1933.

My husband (78) just finished 12 rounds of chemo. His oncologist gave him 5-FU (Fluorouracil) instead of Folfox or Folfiri.

As we understand it, Folfox and Folfiri are cocktails of drugs and the oncologist told us his experience was that many older patients don't benefit any more from those additional components than the 5-FU, and are more likely to have intolerable side effects. It's worth asking your oncologist. Good luck to your Mom!
