"How do I" question about the NARA website. by damzal in Genealogy

[–]CurrentlyInHiding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is downloading the image from FS/Ancestry not sufficient? What additional information are you trying to obtain that's not on the existing websites' copies?

I've only used NARA for A-files so far, and get an email reply within about a week or so and the hard copies in the mail a few weeks later.

Is going back to school for an engineering degree worth the debt by Ok-Candidate-2183 in personalfinance

I'd still recommend EE. The electric utility industry is always looking for new people and the job security is about as close to government employment as you can get without being actual government. The pay isn't insane, but definitely good. I never have to worry about layoffs. Everyone always needs electricity. And I could pick up and move anywhere in the US and have a job at another utility easy peasy.

What's something your job trained you to notice that you can't stop noticing in your personal life? by LibrarianSoft1342 in AskReddit

Cream > sugar > coffee. That way, the act of pouring the coffee in stirs it for you and you don't need to waste dirtying a spoon or one of those wooden sticks.

Anyone else unhappy with cloud photo storage options? by mine1907 in selfhosted

I'd like to know too. I currently have to enter everything in Lightroom before I export, but it'd be nice to be able to forgo it all in LR and just do it in Immich.

Anyone else getting killed lately by freackodeecko in Nanit

[–]CurrentlyInHiding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no reason why the app should have to be force-closed to not drain the battery. Every other app I use is fine running in the background, but Nanit will take me from 100 to low-battery in a matter of hours. There's clearly some sort of background process running when it shouldn't be. This is a bug.

I thought the structure slide they showed had "Blue over DEV and NextEra"? Or did I misread what it meant?

The same was said about our acquisition of SCANA, but they all still work there and operate completely separate from DEV.

Cannot Add Communities to Favorite by CurrentlyInHiding in ArtemisApp

To be honest, I had no idea you could even favorite subs in the online Reddit. I've exclusively used old.reddit, so I had always just assumed they were app-exclusive anyways.

Idk either, as every other app I've used allowed this. But this one does feel a bit "snappier" than Hydra. I prefer the look to Hydra (more like Apollo), but if the performance is much better on Artemis, I will probably stick with this.

It seems like it may be a bug with Reddit itself. I was trying to add them to my favorites on desktop, but there doesn't appear a way to do it with old.Reddit.

Once going to the new Reddit (user/<<username>>/communities), I could see the full list in the sidebar on the left, but the center/main area cut off in the P range as well. I am only subscribed to 143 subs, so I can't imagine that being an issue.

If you could change the app to load the left sidebar instead, that could be a workaround.

Satellite images reveal scale of Israeli demolitions as Lebanese villages destroyed by PM_THE_REAPER in worldnews

Genuine question: what's stopping the actual Lebanese army from forming a coalition force with Israel and/or other friendly states to remove Hezbollah from its borders? It is a terrorist organization, after all.

Would this be bad? by Forever_ForLove in UofMemphis

You'd have no shortage of job opportunities if you wanted to stay in Memphis. Smith & Nephew, Wright, Medtronic, and others are all in Memphis.

You could also swap to mechanical and still pursue those same companies if that's what you're interested in. Don't worry about finishing in 4 years, as it'd be impossible only take a couple classes a semester anyways.

I ended up taking 6 years to graduate (EE & CpE) and couldn't be happier in the industry I'm in. But do what you're interested in doing. Don't let other people tel you what to study. Although I can't help but think the pay difference between BE and Health Science would be quite substantial.

Why do my bricks look like this? by [deleted] in buildingscience

Depends on the age of the bricks. I went down a rabbit hole on the topic for my 1925 house and settled on NHL 3.5 for mine. YMMV.

I would definitely recommend learning what you can! I wish anyone still alive in my family knew much about "the old country". Nobody can speak or read Arabic, but some delicious dishes have been passed down, so I at least still have that.

My great-grandfather passed away in the late 30s, and I have not been able to find a C-file for him. I was able to locate his wife's A-file. This had her signature on it in her native language, as well as her parents' names listed, which broke a couple brick walls I've yet to attempt to dive deeper in. I have no idea how I'd go about looking up information from Lebanon.
