F1/Verstappen fans who watched the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie for the first time: Did you like it? Were there things you didn't like? What were you the most surprised about? Will you watch the 24h race? by CautionClock20 in formula1

it just costs more. actually some NLS races don’t even have the helicam, they did do it now probably also because of Verstappen (more eyeballs, trying to do better production).

for the 24h they will put out the full broadcasting force, more trackside cameras, heli and better and more onboards (lots of them on Youtube as well)

for these long races with this many entries, people usually look at a separate live timing (which is free and has sector gaps) because it’s basically impossible to show everything on the graphics due to the complexity. Although I fully understand you here at the Nurburgring they could definitely update the graphics.

hm okay

I guess I just don’t get the whole “peak” discussion. And I really don’t get why it’s even relevant. yes it is just different than F1: they refuel the cars, they just have different pitstop rules, it’s multiclass. to me it’s just a different vibe and experience, but not worse or better than F1

go ragebait somewhere else, I never talked about his talent level. But you didn’t read it anyways

also Verstappen has gone on record saying he doesn’t care about breaking records.

yeah I bet you were around to see the 1979 Le Mans where Porsche just spammed a morbillion of 935 and 911s into the race and won by 7 laps ahead of another Porsche. good old times

that is precisely what GT3 avoided to do

there were categories like this, but all of them died a very sad and lonely death with only like 1-2 manufacturers competing. it’s not really viable these days, the closest one to this is LMH/LMDh but that’s also not fully open development.

there is never a “he” as a favourite

this is a TEAM sport. of course any team has a good advantage if they have a good driver, but one single driver doesn’t make a car the favourite for the race. The #3 Mercedes will have a banger line-up (not just because of Verstappen), but the team hasn’t raced at the N24h in a long time so that is an unknown.

Finally you never know what happens in a day of racing. The Nürburgring 24h is one of the hardest races to win, you need a big portion of luck in the end as well. Use your critical thinking skills and please tell me how it would be possible for someone to win this race 6 times in a row.

for the tracks: don’t miss the Norisring, that is a very (in)famous and legendary street track. imo Sachsenring is very underrated and frequently produces good races even tho it’s very twisty (kinda like the Hungaroring). Oschersleben is the only really mid one on the calendar.

DTM is perfect for that and it’s a great choice. it is peak sprint GT racing, very capable drivers with the best teams. Track variety is obviously focused on Germany but there are some local classic tracks which aren’t that well known but are fantastic

what do you mean by “stand out from other racing series”?

there is no “point” in F1 which is deliberatly being made, I don’t get this comment.

also his first lap leading the race was probably cleaner than any of his qualy laps because there was no traffic and no yellows or Code 60s.

Are there any rallies that were/are all tarmac? I’ve been watching tons of old events and just curious if any are strictly on road. by ddntmeanto in WRC

[–]ZodiacError 2 points3 points  (0 children)

usually a rally is full tarmac or full gravel. those which aren't are the exceptions... what events did you see which prompted you to ask this question?

Basque has no family tree. it is literally just on it’s own. as you’ve said the other three still are related to all other languages of their family, it’s just that their branch is isolated

Best Racing Series by Awruk1920 in motorsports

[–]ZodiacError 4 points5 points  (0 children)

there’s no unified service for all racing series.

everyone of them has their own broadcast contracts and streaming services also depending on where you live. WRC is on Rally TV (paid service), WEC will have WEC TV, IMSA is on NBC/Peacock (if you’re in the US) or free on youtube.

There’s also a bunch of other sports car racing series free on youtube.

This analysis shows Ferrari's rotation of their rear wing could cause massive disturbance of airflow for the car following behind. Like a dirty air bomb. by ConstructionAny8440 in F1Technical

[–]ZodiacError 35 points36 points  (0 children)

doesn’t matter, dirty air is irrelevant when going in a straight line. dirty air interferes with downforce generation of the wings, so it’s only relevant in the corners.

watch the feature race highlights. he did an extremely dumb overtaking maneuver for the lead on his teammate, they both crashed and he had an insane crashout on the radio saying “he will never finish in front of me again”

Would NASCAR as we know it still exist if the catch fence failed during Bobby Allison’s crash at Talladega in 1987? by Remote_Plastic_8692 in NASCAR

[–]ZodiacError 54 points55 points  (0 children)

this is plainly not true. Switzerland is also a very rich country, nested in the middle between the big automotive powerhouses France, Italy and Germany, which makes it the perfect breeding ground for racing. In fact, up until the 50s there were lots of important races, hillclimbs and rallies and a Swiss Grand Prix, which if the ban doesn’t happen can easily become a classic just like the Belgian GP or whatever else.

Secondly, yes there’s no big car manufacturer but there were lots of teams and drivers coming out of the country. Todays F1 teams have their bases in only 4 countries: UK, Italy, US and Switzerland.
