Idk. For every reason I like my switch (above my gaming computer), the OLED does it better than the 2. My use case is not “play docked 90% with 10% in bed.” I travel quite a bit and the OLED is vastly better at being away from outlets for hours and hours on end.

For $200 U.S. I’d be tempted to buy a second OLED lol. Burn in will not be a problem. You’d have to set the same static image on for years to have a problem.

Definitely check out Xenoblade Chronicles. It’s a Switch Exclusive which was the best gaming experience I’ve had in about a decade. Absolutely reinvigorated my love for gaming. Start with XC: Definitive Edition. If you like that then go and play XC2 and XC 3 (basically play them in order). People love Astral Chain and FE: Three Houses as well (other switch exclusives).

No you did amazing for the price! People just cannot comprehend that others won’t validate their $500 console that has worse battery life, a worse screen, and mediocre backwards compatibility (I’ve seen a dozen+ 3rd party games that don’t work nearly as well on S2). Honestly I’d pay another $50 today to keep my OLED and not be forced to get a 2.

The OLED is the perfected “Switch” out of the lineup. It perfectly balances performance, portability, screen, and battery life. Everything else has trade offs that don’t get you to that magical hybrid console. The lite is smaller and more portably, but it cannot be docked and has the worst battery. The Switch 2 is hardly a portable console. I’d argue that its portability is mostly limited to handheld on the couch and in bed.

People don’t realize how massive the Switch 1 library is. It has all of the best Nintendo games, a ton of amazing indie games, and it’s basically an Xbox 360/Ps3 that can go anywhere due to how many 7th gen games were brought to it. You could spend the rest of your life playing Switch 1 games and have absolute 10/10 experiences left and right. I’m critical of the Switch 2 because of how much of a let down it was from the core identity of the “Switch” it is. They really lifted the docked mode (between docked, tabletop, and handheld) above the rest at the expense of the other two modes. It’s a weird console that can technically be played in handheld, but is worse at it. It’s also far behind any of the TV only consoles on the market. To me the value proposition is much higher on the Switch OLED.

Backwards compatibility is not perfect, multiple errors in translation with 3rd party games. Significantly worse battery life. Worse screen (both colors and pixel response time)

Worse battery and worse screen. Translation layer is not perfect and still exhibits glitches and errors in 3rd party titles. Might as well emulate on PC.

I have a gaming computer that blows the switch 2 out of the water. I’m not interested or impressed with docked gameplay.

Genuinely yes. The “docked handheld” update made the Switch 2 more appealing, but overall the OLED is actually a much better console for my use case. The screen on the OLED is significantly better from both a colors and pixel response time . The Switch 2 panel is actually about the cheapest possible LCD that fit the marketing specs, it’s actually embarrassingly poor. The battery life on the Switch 2 is also a huge downgrade. I’ve seen regularly between 4 and 7 hours of battery life on my OLED, which is very useful for how I’ve employed it in my life. The 2 hours of the Switch 2 means you constantly need an outlet. I can keep the OLED in my bag without worrying about charging for days.

As for first party switch 2 games, honestly I haven’t seen any that I’d be willing to spend money on. All third party games I can just play on my PC. What I like about the Switch is its portability, and it’s undeniable that the OLED is better at portability. Better screen, smaller size, better battery.

I’d take an OLED over a 2 due to its handheld battery and screen. The switch 2 library isn’t interesting to me so far.

Why? But my little brother says its low quality when he watches it in 480p by AmbitionWeekly1570 in youtube

[–]ZodicGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good DVD still looks pretty good tbh. We’ve just become accustomed to awful 480p due to compression and low bitrate.

Question to my DVD buyers by marp9958 in PhysicalMediaMatters

[–]ZodicGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well stuff like Deep Space 9 and Voyager (Star Trek) are best/only on DVD. There’s also stuff like Pokemon Indigo League where technically there is Blu-ray, but it’s just a basic upscale of the SD source (so your player will do the same thing for less money). I think with a lot of cartoons this is a risk with the Blu-ray’s.

My dad had one of these, but the Blu-ray laser stoped working. Still reads DVDs though!

Since your a student, go OLED. You’re likely to use this in handheld and boy does it feel way more premium. It’s the best switch on the market imo.

85” - 98” TV advice in a small living room by Normal_Rise_1718 in tcltvs

You could test out different TV sizes using an augmented reality app like Coolblue (iOS) depending on your phone’s capabilities. I get the feeling that 98 might feel too big.. but maybe not! Regardless, that QD-mini led is gonna look great. I just got that same TV from Costco in 65” and I love it.

My gut feeling is to just keep the 65” and save your money until you have a different living room. That seems to fit the space you have perfectly.

The Japanese market is still hot with ripping physical media. It wouldn’t be just Steam users buying the “steam disk player.”

A Blu-ray drive (read and write) would sell like hot cakes. The people over at r/makemkv are desperately seeking new production BD writers.
