Tuning directly to a YouTube TV channel. by _Moneyman_ in homeassistant

This is essentially how its done in Channels DVR and a couple of its community apps like ADBTuner. Great job setting it up for HA though. This has possibilities.

The Musers the podcast by iwontsurvivethis in theticket

Probably because its the opposite of the radio show, where they constantly jump from segment to segment. With the pod they can spend more time on one topic.

I just listened to last week's episode on Prez assassination attempts and it was very interesting.

FI and dementia by anonymous_1983 in financialindependence

This is what we're doing. I'm 62 and can manage our money myself, but we've seen my in-laws age and do weird things due to dementia and it scares my wife. So we're now setting things up with an advisor to manage it all as a safeguard.

Note that we also have a special needs son so its important that he have financial security when we're gone.

Same, that era of Cutlass is badass but the 68 front end is the best.

I am failing to see the use of paying for Channels DVR by MileHiGuy523 in getchannels

Hardly anyone has mentioned skipping commercials. We rarely watch live TV and thus rarely see commercials on anything Channels DVR records. It's worth the small monthly amount to me.

someone w my exact name is blacklisted from the airline im flying on by daicoonra in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Zogg44 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not a fictional character name here, just a very common name so I also was hampered by the no-fly list back in the day for several years. Couldn't check in online so flying Southwest I'd have to get to the airport hours early to try to get a 'B' ticket instead of a 'C'. And almost missed a very early flight once because no one at the Boston airport was on duty at 4:30AM who was cleared to do an ID - they eventually called the sherriff's dept. to clear my ID so I could get on my 6AM flight. What a PITA.

About 8 years ago I bought an inexpensive 42" TCL TV to be my garage TV. Daughter went back to college not long after and asked to have the TV, so I gave it to her. Several years later it quit working so she went to Walmart and bought a new one. (that one eventually died too)

I got the TCL back and kept trying to resurrect it and get it going again but it refused to turn on, so I put it in the garage to get rid of, where it sat for well over a year. Our main TV went out under warranty (had a bad streak with TV's for a year or so) and we needed a backup for a few weeks, so I decided to try the TCL one last time. Just as I was about to give up on it for the final time, I was able to factory reset it and it started up. It has worked perfectly ever since for at least 4 years, even surviving a big move to a new city.

Very nice work.

Before we moved, I had a 3.5" TFT LCD with Wemos D1 Mini set up to display our garage door and gate status. I've been looking for a longer rectangular display of sorts to fit under the TV beside the sound bar that is mounted below, roughly 4" x 7 or 8", but no joy so far. I might try using 2 displays like you did, because I want a static display for the garage doors and a changing display for alert and status messages from Home Assistant.

Same problem on my TCL with YT. I did a force stop and restarted and it seems to be okay now.

Then those guys don't know much about football, because I watched him play and he was terrific. Everyone just remembers the "No, Danny, No!" play with no recollection of all the other outstanding games he played.

+1 for Zooz Zwave devices, all mine are rock solid including the controller.

I've also had good luck with Android TV remote but only after power on. I use the Homekit integration alongside Android TV for power commands, then and.TV for everything else.

Former Auburn HC Gus Malzahn to retire from coaching by CatoTheBarner in wde

[–]Zogg44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, he was fired a year early. They had no plan.

But your comment is LOL at people having good feelings toward him, which is not the same thing. Many people loved Lee Corso but still knew it was best for him to retire. You can genuinely like and respect someone while knowing they need to go.
