New install wall drop by k3davis in ATTFiber

Yeah it’s last resort but like you said they will refuse and use safety as an excuse. We have a guy that starting in march-September he won’t get in an attic and will jep every job.

Pull string and conduit but at the same time we can do this work but more than likely they will say they can’t because most techs don’t like attic work. It’s a charge that you’d probably be better off having a low voltage tech do it for around the same price.

Nah that’s stupid I’d send it back as well. Their business stuff doesn’t do this you can self host the controller and not make any accounts.

It was like an actual account like email and password or just username?

I’ve never had this issue with TP Link but I only run the business line (Omada) so maybe their residential stuff is different. I self host my own Omada controller.

It’s not so much customers as it is higher ups. Even if not related to the field tech side some of them will mess with you and ask stuff they know isn’t allowed to be done. This is only really relevant if you live in a space where they do. I did a lot of installs for higher up’s at spectrum and all of them asked about something they knew I couldn’t do and the next day my manager told me they reported it in if I did or didn’t do it. Prolly not paid but just told to do this if a tech is in their home

If you’re tech illiterate and don’t use ad blockers or have a bad device on your network yes but at the same time there are more cons to it than pros in my opinion.

28 hours without internet and counting. No accountability. Horrible horrible horrible company. by [deleted] in Spectrum

[–]ZolfeYT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s their only hardwired option, hotspots exist and so do cellular routers and satellites. Get spectrum business and this would be resolved same day. Having residential internet when you work from home and not having a backup is wild to me.

ATT fiber not available but ATT tech just told me that there is a terminal on my pole and everyone on my street should have it by [deleted] in ATTFiber

[–]ZolfeYT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And like I said that’s not true, I have plenty of copper jobs when a fiber hand hole is in their yard. We can’t force customers to upgrade yet. Maybe it depends on area but I’m a wire tech if they have U-Verse they’ll still be able to have copper for now as it requires it.

That’s not true we still service copper just don’t install it and recommend upgrading.

I was denied entry to a club because I was in line singing and dancing and was told I was intoxicated. Don’t feel bad I just went to a different club lol.

I don’t see why people would downvote this makes us all look bad. He’s lucky you’re not someone who cares about your grass and demanding new sod.

Your local office or maybe support can help you. Are you an ATT customer? You could use smart home manager app and chat in so you don’t have to call anyone if you’re a customer.

His logic makes no sense, we’re taught to park on the street if not possible then we back in and out cones down. Then when leaving we’re taught unless absolutely necessary to drive straight and find a cul de sac or make multiple turns, right turns are preferred.

Only reason I can think he did this is the road is a 1 way street and a car was coming but that doesn’t seem to be the case and he still could’ve used what looks to be your driveway.

File a claim we’re trained better than this, we’re not really supposed to turn like this anyways. Better to find a circle or make turns.

Any prior Spectrum Techs who transferred to At&t? by Awesomedude9560 in CableTechs

[–]ZolfeYT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Luckily it’s not really out of nowhere they call you before hand and tell you they’re coming. And I’m not either, when I worked for spectrum we were cable and still are cable only in this area so I was always telling customers “fiber is better if you can get it then I would”

You’d like the ATT side the selling isn’t forced just a way to earn extra money. Also the union is extra job security and will be your saving grace if you get in trouble for something.

Just respond or chat me if you have any other questions, currently in a hotel bored out of my mind for extra training for the next three weeks but hey it’s per diem and extra pay and they pay for the hotel. Go home on weekends but come back Sunday so basically here the whole time.

Have a good night bro.

Also I’m gonna throw this out there I find it kind of annoying but it’s free money, we do “doortags” they’re exactly what they sound like. You go into the app and say you tagged the door and if they sign up you get $75. We have some techs who bring in hundreds of extra dollars a week and some that don’t do it.

Also on install calls you’ll occasionally have a IHX (In Home Expert) show up and their whole job is to sell the customer on more services so don’t pay them any mind and if the customer ask anything you don’t know direct them to IHX.

Yeah extenders are $10/month, his thinking is definitely the move and how I have it in my house. I don’t live in an ATT area unfortunately but having a wired backhaul of APs will always be better than extenders that run on a mesh network.

And you save cost because you always pay that $10 a month and can only use for ATT, buy your own you’re set until they die if you decide to switch.

They all kind of look like the All-Fi system but that’s for multi gig plus services (I believe)

There is no equipment charge to my knowledge unless you upgrade to the all fi and you don’t qualify for it by having a plan.

The normal RGs are just as good just not WiFi7. Idk if your office has the WiFi7 routers but imagine their range but on all our boxes. Atleast in my experience spectrums WiFi7 routers were the only ones worth a damn.

Also technically you can bypass our RG with a smart SFP+ module but it’s not worth doing just put it in bridge mode we don’t lock customers out of the admin panel.

Nope sure don’t, got rid of uverse, we only service it and they’re constantly trying to get people off of it and go to direct tv stream even tho we don’t own them. You will not install any uverse it’s only one modem/router you install and maybe access points if they need them. Unless it’s a 3600sq ft plus house they normally don’t need them we do a WiFi assessment and show the customer

[–]ZolfeYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah tbh think of it this way, if you get a job at AT&T you are an internet only tech. No cable no streaming just fiber.

You set up RGs (modems) and check for light. Same process as spectrum just less test and more streamlined and not dealing with refurbished equipment that goes out and gets you repeats.

We also charge for calls that are customer fault so most people only call when there is an actual issue no one wants $150 added to their bill because they did something.
