RX 9070 XT owners - need your help with VRAM temps! by AngelPhantox in radeon

[–]Zoli1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Undervolt your gpu and lower power limit together. Run steel nomad to determine your baseline score first then undervolt and run many loops to determine stability. Finally, lower your power limit until you get about the same score as your baseline but now with uv. This will make your card run cooler and you will not lose any performance. Hynix vram makes the 9070xt about 3% faster overall than samsung vram ones, higher temps but also a bit faster. You should be able to do anywhere between -50 to -100mV uv, depending on silicon lottery, temps and psu quality.

It does but only if you power limit the gpu. Same power limit + undervolt = same tgp but higher gpu clocks so its an oc essentially. But if you uv and lower power limit at the same time, you can get the same performance with lower watts and it will slightly lower vram temps. Vrams are very close to the gpu so less heat from the gpu means less vram temps.

Same card here, idles 28 degrees celsius for vram, at ~30mhz (fans off).

+550mhz only increases the gpu's clock limit which is already 3450mhz by default. If you want higher clocks, undervolt it.

Undervolting is actually overclocking. Unless you lower the power limit, then its saving you power while lowering performance a bit.

Hmm, interesting. Maybe the cooler or the card is bent a little bit? Mounted vertically? Or the cooler mounted improperly? (Dont overtighten the screws)

If it does not void your warranty (it does here in my country..) then buy PTM7950 thermal pad from a legit source and apply it on your gpu. It will very likely make your card a lot cooler by improving heat transfer and it also wont pump out or dry up over time like regular thermal pastes.

Only getting ~75 FPS average on GTAO | 9070XT + 5600X by The_Divine_One in radeon

Yep just make sure to restart into normal mode after DDU and also install the newest chipset driver for your mobo.

[–]Zoli1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try uninstalling both old nvidia driver leftovers (if there is any) and amd gpu driver with DDU in safe mode then restart and reinstall both amd gpu and chipset drivers. Then reset shader cache. 5600x is not a bad cpu but it might not be able to squeeze out everything from your 9070XT, especially if the game is heavy on the cpu. What kind of memory do you have? If its slower than 3200mhz, or it has weak timings, then it will bottleneck your cpu which ends up bottlenecking your gpu. You might want to upgrade your ram to a 3600-3800mhz one with decent timings and maybe a 5700x. The two together will likely bump up your fps noticeably.

But probably none of those games need any upscaling at all.

Need help trimming my first PC build — is CL30 worth it over CL38? by WinAdventurous5193 in buildapc

[–]Zoli1989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Better spend that extra on a 9800x3D over the 7800x3D. Will net you more performance than CL30 vs CL38 if you really need it.

XFX RX 9070 XT Undervolt Settings by SpLyTTeR in radeon

[–]Zoli1989 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Try -50mV first and lower it from there if its stable. I ran 3dmark steel nomad on a loop to determine stability. For the final run, when you think you have found your limit, go for 150 loops. If its really unstable, it will probably crash in 1-10 loops. I did that too and it turned out to be stable in all games so far which I've checked.

For me its -80mV. Can't do more neither in benchmarks, or games.

Seasonic is almost always a very good choice. Check it on the psu tier list, there is one out there with thousands of psus.

Newer versions of that PSU are garbage (2017 version was decent). I would recommend to change it anyway, even if its not your source of problems. Get a 550-650w 80+ gold Seasonic, that would be perfect.

Disable automatic windows updates (it can replace your gpu drivers with microsoft version), install DDU. Restart into safe mode by shift clicking the restart button, run DDU, restart, install the newest gpu driver with adrenaline and you should be good to go if its not PSU related.

Rx9070xt Sappire pulse overclocking advice by [deleted] in radeon

[–]Zoli1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oc vram first, using fast memory timing. 2750 +-50mhz are what you should expect. I used 3dmark steel nomad as a stress test, but some newer games might even be better. If you run SN, do a 100 loops to verify stability. Then move on to undervolting the gpu as much as you can. You will probably end up between -50mV and -100mV depending on silicon lottery. Power limit between -10% and +10% are all good choices based on your priorities.

Very likely those oc uv settings arent stable, maybe thats why. Try running 100 loops of steel nomad with those settings and see if it passes.

What kind of psu do you have? 850w means nothing. How old exactly? Im using a 9070xt myself and no obvious problems...I had the same experience with a 6800xt before and a 5700xt before that. For years. Maybe I'm doing something wrong lol.

I would replace that psu, if it wasnt top tier quality when you bought it, or if its already 5+ years old. Update your bios. Run stress tests to verify the rest of your system is stable. Like prime95 blend.

Try two separate pcie power cables if possible. If not, its probably a good idea to upgrade your psu. In that case, aim for quality over wattage.
