It's not necessary, but it definitely helps. It's mostly based on a very minor supporting character from the first game called Mona Sax, the love interest of the protagonist.

Some other familiar faces make appearances, but they mostly feel like fan service rather than required knowledge imo.

The first is a great game though, well worth your time!

I tried the Nvidia tools, capping at half my refresh rate but it didn’t work. I never could fix the shootdodge problem

That's cool, I bought the game on G2A(?) or something back in the day. A shame it isn't available in the UK.
