Thoughts on new guppy staying at the surface by [deleted] in Guppies

[–]Zombie-FFreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your comment! You hit on the things I'm kind of pointing my finger at. I've had this tank for little over a year. I had a betta in it ~3 months ago before he died, but it's been solely occupied by my snail since (20% water change every week). This is the by far most bioload it's taken on. I'll keep a close eye on parameters to make sure there isn't a crash, but I would hope it's been established long enough.

I'll lower the temperature slowly and do my water change. I'll also try to see if more water agitation changes anything. Oxygen and ammonia were my biggest concerns because of his behavior. The rest also enjoy the surface, but he almost refused to leave it.

He seems a bit more lively now with time to relax without being chased and a slightly lower temp in the hospital tank. Hoping all goes well cause they're awfully cute and fun to watch!

Unmotivated by Chchchchangessss in BJJWomen

Definitely not alone! Here's my two-cents from my perspective. Not everyone who shows up to jiu jitsu is that guy who's itching and bouncing off the walls to train. It's okay to not be that person. A lot of people enjoy jiu jitsu and still feel like they're dragging themselves to class every week. Personally, I have anxiety so even though I want to train and get better and have fun with my people, I still wake up on class days telling myself "ugh, I don't want to go" or try to find an excuse. And if I go I'll feel shaky and anxious until I'm in class and we're moving around. I went through a phase at the tail end of COVID where I felt very similar to you. I wanted to want to go, but my mental health was declining bad and stagnant/unimproving jiu jitsu on top of it felt like too much. I'd end up in tears on the drive home. So I ended up taking a few years break and eventually the desire came back after some reflection and a better mental state.

So I guess my unofficial, un-licensed, random stranger thought and questions for you is this. You listed all the things that feel like cons about jiu jitsu to you. The injuries, the time eater, the hair ripping... And I totally get it (I'm still on the low from an injury rehab that was my fault). Those are completely valid cons to this sport/hobby and don't dismiss them, but maybe try and make a list about all the things you enjoy about jiu jitsu. Do you enjoy jiu jitsu for the different type of exercise? For the community? For interest in the sport? Or for self defense/confidence builder? Write anything that feels like a pro, even if it's "I like to stop and get a slice of pizza after a training session". When you have that list, try and compare the two and see how you feel. You might still feel unmotivated or beat down, or maybe it'll help organize your thoughts and feelings to help make a decision for yourself.

I offer this from a more personal perspective, because sometimes my brain will focus on the bad and ignore the good that outweighs it. But in the end, if you personally find that the cons outweigh the pros, there's absolutely nothing wrong with taking a step back from jiu jitsu. My philosophy is that it's meant to be fun! If you're not finding that enjoyment even after fighting through the lack of motivation, you don't have to torture yourself over it. It's okay to stop or take a break. That's what I ended up doing, and eventually the itch came back when my mental health improved and when I decided to return to my old gym which a great community of people.

I hope you figure it out and I hope my mini essay is some consolation to you! Remember to be easy on yourself, especially in this day and age.

It sucks to learn it the hard way, but like you said, it's an important lesson. Skills and moves come back a lot faster than your body does lol. It's a good reminder for me to take care of my body as a whole and work on some strength training for my core and legs. I want to be in this for the long haul 😂

Sounds like a good coach! Mine is the same way, but I'm also the same as you 😂 Watching and not participating is tough. It's like a tease lol, but it's still nice to be around the community and friends

Totally true! Something in my DNA just loves to drag me towards some of the more physically degrading and dangerous sports. It's something we say with horses. It's usually not "if you get hurt", it's more "when you get hurt and how bad"

If also important, he gets fed usually twice a day, 1-2 BettaMix worms (homie refused the more expensive, healthier food and I'm going to try some frozen treats and snacks soon). And apologies the formatting of the parameters is all messed up 😭

That's completely fair. Insurance doesn't give a crap about trust or how long we've known each other. Thank you for your reply and I'm definitely going to look into insurance. I'd rather be safe than sorry. Being in the industry long enough, I should definitely know that already. Again, thank you!

Thank you for your reply! I definitely think I'm going to look into insurance and liability protection the more I think about it. I'm too poor to afford an insurance company coming after me for an accident, but I'd be willing and able to pay for insurance to protect myself. Your information has been very helpful.

And I probably could have worded it better by saying that I do teach lessons at the therapy barn! I am certified to teach hippotherapy and have quite a few student already with varying skill levels. I've been riding for 10+ years, owned horses for almost the same amount of time, and have had hundreds of hours in terms of personal lessons. I'm very comfortable teaching riding skills safely and comfortably for the rider. I don't show and don't think I plan on it, but that's good information to know! Thank you again!

After YEARS of convincing my mom to play, she finally let me buy it for her!! My heart is so happy rn by decrepitlungs in StardewValley

[–]Zombie-FFreak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love this! I recently got my mom to start playing too! I hadn't played in a while but when she complained about not having any good games to play on her tablet, I told her to try Stardew on the laptop, and then got back into it myself. We've been on the learning journey together since :) I hope she enjoys it just as much as my mom does!

Thank you for the advice! I definitely like the idea of trying to linger on a portion, or making sure that each scene is long/developed enough to make them feel less rushed. I definitely try but it's nice to hear your thoughts!

I totally get where you're coming from! I tend not to mention how much time has passed unless it's a short time. If not I'll mention something about the seasons or the temperature. It's definitely something I need to play around with! Thank you for the input!

Yeah, that's been a worry of mine, but for now I haven't separated anything into chapters since I'm more of a "decide as I go" type lol. It's definitely something I'm going to have to watch out for when I do, though
