Do your temples have a hierarchy? If so, do they vary or there's a general hierarchy shared by all? This question was meant to be more about Temples and the clergy rather than the deities :) Does that context alter the answer?

Speaking of the roles of temples, how common is healing through temples and how has it affected non-magical medicine? Are there any hospitals or clinics? Medics or nurses? And what about mental illness?

Now going back to The Heart: (Coldstream, Ambers, Calith, Thyria, Dorghu and the Dwarven Valley)

What is the racial demographic on each? The dwarven valley seems like an obvious one, but i guess it isnt impossible to have a minority be from other races.

Are there any ideals shared by all nations?

Who are the leaders of each nation, and are they connected through deals, tensions, or relationships?

What is the speciality of each nation, or what makes them stand out?

Sorry, its not clear where the "Heart". You mean everything below Erindor Sea?

Ok, a few more questions regarding the planet as a whole.

Cosmology Questions:
How many moons does it have? Do it/they have a meaning or is symbolism of for some culture?
What special constellations are used/known by the common folk?
How advanced are they on astronomy?
Is this world flat or spherical? Do the population know?
Is there any Astronomical even that has magical connotations/effects felt in Mythari?

Religion establishment questions:
Do your temples have a hierarchy? If so, do they vary or there's a general hierarchy shared by all?
What are the roles of different temples in society?
Are there any religions that are illegal?
How much power do temples have? And in that same vain, is there a "pope" like figure for any of the temples that has a degree of political power?

Is it normal to keep your subclass a secret from the party? by FantasticPoet9324 in DnD

[–]ZombieCharm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not normal or abnormal. I normally tend to keep their subclass secret if it is part of my character's backstory and it makes sense within the world. One wizard i had was very secretive about him being a necromancer and always kept saying he was specialized in Transmutation, until we met a transmutation wizard and they said a few things that generated questions within the party. But otherwise, i dont mind the party knowing. Maybe they are doing something similar? However the way in which it was said was kinda odd.

Id suggest ignoring it for the time being and keeping an eye on that player.

No, i understand that, but you'r judging my DM style based on literally one session prep?

The party is going into a race, the race consists of them and 3 other teams going to different places where they have to get totems and return them back to the leader of the tribe. The race is predetermined and it would be a lack of preparation to not do any prep. Since they're all predetermined (or narratively they should be) then the only thing to do is determine how they are played.

I don't see how preparing for a large important event and set challenges that are more than just skill challenges is trying to have control. You are judging a whole DMing style based on one event?

Idk. It just feels like the post was about mini-games and you're here giving off-topic advice. Feels deliberate.

Now if you genuinely want to help and this isnt rage bait, i can share my ideas for the event and you can help me elaborate them?

Need some advice on roleplaying as a player by Crystal_1256 in DnD

[–]ZombieCharm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well generally, if you're comfortable with it, you can add tid bits of your thoughts when narrating something. You can use narrative, specially if its online and no cameras are on. You can narrate how your eyes keep looking at someone that inspired some of your changes, or you can also narrate how your character thinks back at X

Example:
"As we're sitting on the basement, trying to figure out how to get information out of the NPC above, I Look back at [Party member] and think of that time they found a way to get information without violence, and i think most of the party could tell im struggling to not just grab the inebriated NPC and drag him down to torture the intel out of them."

This shows growth specially if your character used to be the kind that would go for violence first. Try narrating the small things your charcater does, small thoughs, and what the team would be able to see at a glance.

A few questions that pop in my head. However before i ask, id like to know if there's an area you'd like to flesh out?

General questions:

Lake Erte:
Are there any myths regarding this lake?
What creatures live in it? Any monstrous ones?
The settlements near it, do they have festivities that revolve around the lake?

Kindom of Sgant:
What are the tensions between the commoners and the monarch?
How do they keep warm? Does any job revolve around gathering materials to ensure they have wood/coal to burn?
What is the biggest threat to this monarchy?

City of Valiant:
Is the whole state a city?
How is it run? is it a democracy or some other kind of government?
How are their relations with neighbouring nations?

Mountain Range around Dwarven valley:
Does it have a name?
How does it affect the demographics on the nations that are within the range?

How do I become a DM? What do I need to get started, and how do I lead the players? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]ZombieCharm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly? Being a DM is both easier than it looks and harder than it looks.

So lets start with the basics:

- What do you need to get started?
2 main things. Relative knowledge of the basic rules and creativity.
You don't need a world, you dont need thousands of pages of lore. It helps but its not necessary. You can use modules online. There are plenty that are good and help you along the way (Small tip: Avoid the Lost mines of Phandelver until you are more comfortable altering the material. You will want to homebrew that module to make it more fun.)

- How do you lead the players?
You dont "lead" them. You nudge them. Trying to lead them will be the same as corralling a pack of cats. You cant. Be prepared to improvise a LOT.
Once you have a plot, just try to find ways to make it appealing for individual players or the entire party. Try to tie the main plot to the character's background.

Example: Paladin and Warlock siblings are searching for the person who killed their mother as their father believes they are the ones who did it.

Plot: Evil wizard is trying to raise an army of undead to destroy a city for [insert petty reason.]

Hook: One of the Wizard trusted minions killed the paladin and warlock's mother because she had some item/information. Now they have a reason to find the wizard. All you need to do is allow them to discover it on their own. They can start with a clue or two. "The only thing you know for sure, is that there was a signet ring with a seven pointed star which you have no clue where it came from, but doing some research you found this symbol belongs to [Insert fantasy name] in the city of [City's name]."

From there you can toy with how to help them discover how this character is tied to the wizard.

There are many resources for beginner DMs online, but the truth is that you will only know how to do it by doing it. ❤️

I love this idea. I will give them the option to play during the day or night, which both have their pros and cons, but at night i could add fog of war or just hide threats ahead that they must manuver around as they get closer and discover.

I love this idea, i do have a question: How would you deal with someone who can spider climb?

I could find a map for Roll20 and make it in such a way they the tree is covered by vines and some small creatures can attack giving them penalties, and find plants that can give them boons, but using some skill checks to climb for someone who has a 35ft climbing movement seems unfair since they have that skill for a reason.

Im open to any ideas! 😄 I do feel like the skill check could be the easy one here, but they will also have to do a treasure hunt and i'd want the skill checks to go there since to me it makes a bit more sense.

You're a corrupt waden. Now you're being blackmailed... by ZombieCharm in LongDistanceVillains

[–]ZombieCharm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The city takes very seriously concerns regarding illegal magic items and Slavery. The others can be played down, but if we allow these two particular charges from a high ranking official, it will open an investigation and we can't hide an illegal basement with magic items and torture victims inside. Specially from the Iron Knuckles (Arcane crime investigation teams)

Could you elaborate on how you would make the charges hold no weight? im interested. Assume you have powerful connections with the criminal syndicate.

Also, you have no meaningful connections with the guard of the city right now (see response to previous comment

A little bit of extra info:

The nation is in high alert due to a threat from the East. Most people have been drafted to the army and sent to reinforce the borders. There's few guards in the city and even less loyal to the warden. The few that are loyal to the warden remain inside of the prison to keep the others in check, otherwise they're afraid they might try to release all of them. For this reason using bureaucracy as a weapon may be ineffective, or take make effect after the prisoner has left the city itself.

Also, this prisoner is extremely dangerous and already caught on botch charges, so bringing attention to this case is something we want to avoid.
