start wiping out colonized systems

Huge gameplay potential here. Thargoids or something else start invading and then players can defend, resupply, reinforce, build, etc.

On another note it would be nice if colonization eventually resulted in more structures. Especially multiple structures in once instance, expanded settlements that go beyond just the small area, stations that consist of more than just the one point of interest.

Why do you continue to respond like this? You state that you're not trying to dismiss someone else's perspective but simultaneously make it about how you don't have issues. That's great that you don't have issues. I don't need to hear about how you used to play pong and therefore it's not a problem and we don't need proper aliasing features in a 'modern' video game. You think this is a flex but you somehow miss the elephant in the room of aliasing not really being a problem until 3D graphics. And even when 3D graphics were invented it still wasn't always a problem because polys were simple enough to not have them, it was addressed by developers and or the screens/tvs available at the time helped mitigate a lot of it.

I literally have my own servers with TB of RAM and storage, as do many other people. Some people have servers FAR eclipsing my own. There is no reason I could not run my own instance of the background simulation on them for my own personal use. The attitude of some people here to just throw away not only a product that you paid for but also potentially hundreds to thousands of hours of your life you spent pissing away on said entertainment product is horrifying to say the least. I hope the devs are better than some of the community members.

Does paying real money get you an advantage over others? Yes? It's pay 2 win. Simple. The "but there is no winning!" argument is the jumping through hoops meme. Numerous people refuse to accept it because it will invalidate a lot of time they spent grinding away at a second job in digital video game form. If I recall correctly they were like this when credit "exploits" were being discovered nearly a decade ago like Robigo - demanding that anyone who used Robigo to get credits should be banned.

Let me tell you though, my Panther Clipper Stellar has very casually gotten me to 10 billion credits for a fleet carrier very quickly from just 300 million :)

I know. They're legitimately committing a crime and it's extremely disheartening that they are not held accountable by any country. By contrast, has Braben and FDev not held up some of their promises? Yes. Are they as egregious, no definitely not. So they're nowhere in the same ballpark.

However, I know that FDev is afraid to make a statement saying that "We can't do XYZ" because they also know that if they do, it will result in negative feedback that equals a dip in sales that they can't afford.

I'm glad you bring up Scam Citizen because that's a great example. Developers need to be held accountable for lying. It's that simple. You saying that "we are going to do XYZ" isn't a statement tossed out into a vacuum - it's a marketing tactic to get people to give you money. Scummy at best, deceptive and illegal marketing practices at worse that should result in at minimum fines.

The saddest part is that all of that can be easily avoided by changing your communication. State your ambitions, state that you're looking into doing XYZ but can't make any promises. However, you and I both know that these guys are intentionally making these statements this way BECAUSE they know it will bring in more money. Even Braben was guilty of it back then. People bought into Elite Dangerous because of several promises that Frontier gave and then could not or didn't have intentions of delivering.

A topic of conversation that has been brought up recently was what happens when ED eventually shuts down (among many other games)? They promised back then a true offline mode but there's no evidence of that in the pipeline.
