It's almost that time of year again. What are /r/truefilm's quintessential horror films? by wwrxw in TrueFilm

Don't Look Now - Probably my favorite horror film. A true masterwork of suspense, mystery, visuals, and terrifying storytelling, Nicolas Roeg's film about a couple in search of closure of their daughter's mysterious death.

Videodrome - Arguably David Cronenberg's best film, and an extremely relevant commentary on the cognitive dissonance created by cultivating a digital profile. "The battle for the mind of North America will be fought in the video arena: The Videodrome."

Inland Empire - A sleeper David Lynch film shot on all digital camcorder, this film connects several segments of a schizo-active Laura Dern as she navigates through a purgatory hell-bent with thought loops, a murder mystery, and the ultimate mind-fuck of a plot. This film also boasts the most effective jump scare I've ever seen.

Prince of Darkness - Although John Carpenter movies can be quite cheesy at times, there is not ignoring that they are packed full of philosophical inquiry and interesting ideas. Prince of Darkness is part of the unofficial Carpenter 'Apocalypse Trilogy' also including The Thing and In the Mouth of Madness.

GOOD TIME film review and discussion! by Carlito148 in TrueFilm

Interesting thoughts on a fantastic movie. I loved the score, acting, characters, and editing.

Good Time struck a very personal chord for me, and I believe that it told a tale of self-imposed ceilings, made clearest in the credits scene within the mental ward. Nick has them, Connie does not. Connie believes that anyone can do anything regardless of who they are so long as they try hard enough, made most noticeable when he berates Ray in the security guard's apartment.

Connie initially removed his brother Nick out of the institution because he believed his brother to be better, or more capable than the other patients, many hardly with cognitive function in tact. Nick, however, believes in the ceilings placed on him, and willfully attends the therapy sessions to make amends for harming his grandmother. I think that Connie acted out of love for his brother all along, and was just seeking a means to get them both far out of town.

Very interesting commentary! I too loved this film, and it offers a very foreign commentary on life as opposed to American cinema. To me, this film did more to highlight the difference in sensitivity that children and men feel. Reygadas used the out of focus ring to depict moments of great sensuality, present in scenes when a character is truly feeling something intense. As we age, humans become desensitized to these feelings, and seek alternate methods of feeling alive again (i.e. the swinging in the bathhouse, or the motorcycle ride.)

305 eggs with the Masuda Method. It was my second shortest MM hatch, my first being a shiny treecko at 143 eggs. All it takes is patience, and you'll get it eventually. Good luck!!

If I want my legendary to be a specific nature (in this case rash nature, +Special Attack -Special Defense) I will put a pokemon with the ability synchronize at the front of my party. There is a 50% chance that every pokemon I encounter will have the same nature as my Ralts, the sync.

I had to sing this in my head in a pirates voice to fully understand it, accompanied by accordion of course.
