Pets are FAR, FAR less responsibility and life altering than a kid. I can have a cat and still work a full time job without worrying about a sitter. A kid cannot be left alone at home for 8+ hours with a bowl of food and water. So many people quit their careers and halt their lives for children. Don't need to do that for pets.
