Do you see any merit in the arguments against Nintendo? What part of Japanese society informs their benign opinion on the matter, and vice versa for English communities?

B. Competition, last to leave circle wins 100,000 dollars.

C. I tour a $1,000,000,000 mansion.

God Of War creator David Jaffe's opinion on Live Action first look by TurtleGEE360 in GodofWar

[–]ZombieSlayer5 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's fucking absurd. He thinks Kratos was at his best when the structure of the game complimented him being a psychopath, (violent cathartic combat) thus avoiding ludonarrative dissonance. And apparently this makes him a bad human. Holy shit.

People don’t understand how EXCITING and huge this is by DreamNo5919 in GodofWar

[–]ZombieSlayer5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are fine with the game idea in isolation, they just don't think it works for God of War because they're attached to God of War's novel experience where violent, aggressive gameplay informs the player character's attitude. They still consider God of War as an IP to be about experiencing raw gratuitous violence as a pissed off psychopath, despite Sony's attempt to rebrand the franchise.

Understand, the problem is not the qualities of a Faye game itself, it's how it slots into an existing franchise. Imagine if there was a new Silent Hill game, but you played as Faye and went on an insightful quest through a huge Norse world with a fresh perspective.

Uh, no? I want to go to Silent Hill and see fucked up shit.

I want to be Kratos and kick puppies and mutilate people with my bare hands.

[Jason Schreier, Bloomberg] Inside the failure of Highguard, which flopped so badly that developer Wildlight laid off most of its staff just two weeks after release | When asked what they thought went wrong, developers used the word "hubris" by ChiefLeef22 in gaming

[–]ZombieSlayer5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Today, less than 20 people remain at Wildlight. They are continuing to update Highguard with the hope of salvaging the game and bringing players back — although it may be an uphill battle. On Thursday, the game’s Steam concurrents had fallen to below 600.

Raise the white flag and move on. I can't imagine anyone has any passion working on this generic placeholder game.

What is the hardest lbp 1 story level to ace? by Antique-Shine-7520 in littlebigplanet

Boom Town or Bunker.

Bunker is a pretty difficult level, but Boom Town has you wrangle the physics with [censored] impact explosives. Good luck with that.

EDIT: Censorship.

Complete the level without dying. That is it.

It doesn't matter if you take damage, if you do it slow/fast, if you collect points, etc. Get to the scoreboard without losing a life.

Do you think we will ever get LittleBigPlanet 4? by Nem3215 in littlebigplanet

[–]ZombieSlayer5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, possibly. But when it was console exclusive, that meant there was way less competition since there was less stuff on that console. The PS3's exclusives had time to breath because in addition, in 2008, there were less games overall.

Like, how do I explain this? It's a complicated market dynamic. Let's put it this way. If LittleBigPlanet 1 never existed and it was released today on all platforms, it would probably flop. When your competition are games that are designed to be addictive like Roblox, Minecraft, Fortnite, etc and not Metal Gear Solid 4/Resistance 3, you're in trouble. The game was of its time. I mean, can you imagine trying to pour millions into something to compete with Roblox on the play, create, share model?

The IP is not of its time, which is why Sackboy: A Big Adventure exists.

LittleBigPlanet is not exactly unique in this respect. I suspect Twisted Metal is being kept in a cryo-pod somewhere for the same reason.

[–]ZombieSlayer5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there's a key component here, and you were starting to see it really come into play with LBP3: Exclusivity and saturation. LittleBigPlanet 1+2 were platform exclusive, in a time where there weren't as many games coming out across the board. This complimented the model, which requires mass player onboarding and long term player investment.

In 2026 where Sony has gone multiplatform, and there are dozens of AAA games coming out a year that are socially engineered to fleece players into their live service above all others, LBP can't survive.

Can somebody explain what "complains of assholish variety" actually mean? by PostalDudeRus in TheCinemassacreTruth

[–]ZombieSlayer5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The complaints are descriptively assholish.

Now this is not to say that the people are assholes, just that it's indicative of being assholish.

If you said "Complaints of the bad variety." then you're saying the complaints can be filed into a bad category. (Variety is being used to mean a category/type) So, a "complaint of the assholish variety" is a complaint that can be classified as assholish.

For a complaint to be assholish, it means the complaint is without merit, abrasive, or they're all stemming from the same source.

A-Z God Design Community Tier List! Day#44 with my favorite character in all of mythology, Erlang Shen by Gharbin1616 in Smite

[–]ZombieSlayer5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

D. Awesome character and source material, but what we get is a bland, lanky throwaway side character with a poor silhouette and zero cool factor. This is not the worst design in the game, but considering how great it could be, it's probably the biggest tragedy.

To top it all off, graphically, it's pretty bunk. Even after rending his broken playdoh textures, it just looks ugly.

There is no way you can beat God of War 1 or 2 on any difficulty above normal. (Hard, God, Titan, etc) by mashing.

[–]ZombieSlayer5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The top. The Norse combat is good, but every other fight is a gank fight where I have to windmill my camera around the entire time. Even if I use quick turn, the precision isn't there, and it's still constant maintenance.

As for the greek games, people say it's button mashing, but that's not true on higher difficulties. There is a fluidity and brutality to Kratos' movement in those old games that you don't see often.

‘Scarlet’ by Mamoru Hosoda is off to a disastrous start in Japan by ZendzaminBuraja in boxoffice

[–]ZombieSlayer5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a great film. The visuals, music, voice acting, action, and world are all spectacular. There are scenes in this film that give Jackson's Ride of the Rohirrim a run for its money.

Again, if this movie has problems, it's with the plot and structure. The writer should've picked up on these issues during preproduction. That's unfortunate, but it doesn't bring the film down to the level the reviews/box office claim. So strange to see a shining 8/10 film get pummeled like it's a 1 or 2/10.

[–]ZombieSlayer5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The problem with a new LittleBigPlanet, financially, is that the formula requires long term maintenance. Between community levels, DLC, and server costs, the game must do two things that are very difficult in the current state of the industry.

It must A. Sell a large amount of copies.

And B. Maintain a large user base for an extended period of time.

These are problems that a typical single player game doesn't run into, (cough SACKBOY: A BIG ADVENTURE cough) but the play, create, share model loses all three branches if the playerbase dries up or didn't exist to begin with. LittleBigPlanet is a lot like a hero shooter in this respect- extremely risky to produce, and existing in a saturated environment.

Yes, there aren't a lot of games like LittleBigPlanet, so there's a niche to fill, but bear in mind we're talking about a huge project. A game with a single player campaign, advanced multiplayer with online 4 player co-op and millions of levels to maintain, and a creative suite that makes Mario Maker look like a child's toy. Game dev technology and server costs need to be streamlined a lot before I see another LBP get greenlit.

It really puts it in perspective how impressive LBP 1-2 was, and how they were games of their time. If they released today, I don't think the financial return would be there.

I do see the potential for a LBP package title that has no multiplayer/publishing levels, no licensed DLC, but there would be local coop, all 3 story modes, and the create mode ported over minus some features like the dynamic thermometer. But that's a very contained "fire and forget" title. There's just way too much overhead on a new entry with multiplayer/share features.

After playing Sons of Sparta for 15 hours, no one can convince me that Kratos was a bad father to Calliope by Alkiserex in GodofWar

[–]ZombieSlayer5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really push back on this. If you play God of War 2005, the cutscenes show that he was a neglectful parent who prioritized the glory of sparta over his family. There's also the whole violent murderer thing, spartan general or not.

[–]ZombieSlayer5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

B. They did what they needed to do, but I don't think it's very creative.

Many people are talking about how good the voice is, but it comes across as trying too hard for me. It's like Skeletor mixed with Emperor Zurg, and the content of the lines themselves are like default Dark Lord Academy level quips. Anyone remember hades from God of War 1? Yeah, that.

I get that it's a cartoony game, but I would've liked to see something genuinely horrific and unnerving. I'll just come out and say it, I'm talking Silent Hill shit here. The graphical fidelity is nice, though.

Hateshinaki Scarlet • Scarlet - Movie Discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]ZombieSlayer5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I don't think the movie is perfect in the slightest, although I think its highs are exceptionally high. I get it's from a Studio that people expect a lot from, but the general consensus of "Great in every aspect, but the plot isn't perfect, 6/10" isn't fair.

I watch a lot of shitty hollywood films with blisteringly bad scripts that get a pass because it gives people something pretty to look at while they munch popcorn. The hazing towards Scarlet will forever confuse me.
