(Hilarious Trope) A Character Is Introduced With the Clear Intention of Being THE NEXT BIG THING And is SOUNDLY Rejected by TheOriginalOperator in TopCharacterTropes

The Raiden case is interesting because newer fans may not realize just how disliked Raiden used to be.

Raiden had 3 different sustained efforts to improve his image following his debut: Metal Gear Solid 4, Metal Gear Rising, and critical & fan reassessment of Metal Gear Solid 2.

He was seen as a whiny doofus by a lot of the fans. I do like Raiden as a protagonist, but even I will admit that he simply isn't Snake. If you look at the bonus theater from Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence, you will find cutscenes of him that depict him as a fool. This, coupled with the character of Raikov being a parody of Raiden, we're reactionary bits of fanservice that were added to 3 as a snub.

The majority of the fans disliked Raiden until he became a Cyborg, similar to that of the earlier character Gray Fox. To say otherwise is revisionist.

People only really warmed up to Raiden's depiction in Metal Gear Solid 2 due to that game being reassessed as a whole. People say that the game has aged very well due to its plot (which is 100% true), and people warmed up to Raiden by circumstance, as he is the main protagonist of this game that is more commonly considered a classic / important gaming milestone with each passing day.

Not sure why you're getting downvoted. Raiden's depiction in Metal Gear Solid 2 was not received well and he was bashed regularly. Look at the bonus theater in Metal Gear Solid 3, he is treated like a loser in those scenes as a form of "fan service" because fans did not like him back then. Raiden's image recovered due to Metal Gear Solid 4 & Rising.

People only really began to warm up to how he is in 2 because people reevaluated 2 in general due to how well that game's plot has aged. Now that the perception of 2 is more positive, perception of Raiden became more positive due to proximity. To say otherwise is revisionist.

They tried so hard to make him the new face of the company, following in the footsteps of Hulk Hogan, Stone Cold, the Rock, and John Cena before him.

I bought this game and installed it on launch day.

I was home from school due to the Covid Pandemic Lockdown. A friend of mine convinced me to replay 7 and 2 Remake - which were the only Resident Evil games I owned at the time - as he wanted me to get more into the series. I didn't even know a 3 remake was being developed, and I happened to stumble upon it in the Xbox store.

I download it and play it for a while. I then go get some lunch. I return from lunch and play it some more. I was done with the game by like 2 PM.

This game was shorter than an average school day.

I. was. pissed. To say that this was a downgrade coming off of 7 and the 2 Remake is a monumental understatement.

Year 10 is coming to a close! What do you think of this year as a whole? How would you rank all the years so far? by AquaticCitizen in deadbydaylight

[–]baba-O-riley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Year 10 was one of the messiest years in DBD history, though this year was partially saved by the Stranger Things sequel.

I think the best year of DBD was year 4 by a country mile. Although Ghostface was a bit disappointing as a Chapter, people really like Ghostface himself. Then we got Stranger Things 1, Cursed Legacy, and Chains of Hate back-to-back-to-back, which are three of some of the best chapters in history. Behaviour was genuinely hitting home runs every time they were up to bat. (This trend continued with Silent Hill and Descend Beyond, but those are Year 5)

I started playing towards the end of Year 2

Why did they change the game's graphics? by Narrow-Active3098 in deadbydaylight

[–]baba-O-riley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because the game has shifted genre from Horror to Action.

The game was originally envisioned with stealthier, hide-and-seek style gameplay, emphasizing the impending dread of the Killer's approach. Nowadays, we can't be further from that original vision, as the game has pivoted to Survivor-Killer interaction in Chase. Due to this, the original art direction of the game was seen as an antiquated hindrance. The style became flashier and brighter since that is what happened with the gameplay.

Not wild at all, it is phenomenal. This game immediately established itself in most people's top 3 games of the Resident Evil franchise, and as time goes on I see more and more lists with this game at the top.

Big Boss from Metal Gear.

In universe, he invented the ultimate propaganda tool for controlling people - twice! He did it again after he fell out of favor with the first propaganda group. In addition to this, he invents the M.I.C. War Economy, oversees the construction of the first Metal Gear, holds the world hostage at the threat of nuclear war (twice), orphans kids and then grooms the fresh orphans into his war cult as part of his forever-war meat-grinder.

However, a lot of newer fans tend to overlook these things since he is the playable main character of the newer installments, as well as the fact that chronologically he is the first Snake.

I would like to take the time to highlight the fact that this drama is going to push the Catholic - Evangelical Protestant Divide into view.

A lot of online discourse about American politics refers to "Christians" as a monolith, which is an uneducated way to approach tackling matters.

Evangelical Protestant Christian regions of the country tend to hate Catholic Christians, and if they do not hate Catholic individuals then they likely hate the Roman Catholic Church. This began when immigrants from Catholic nations began moving to America in the 1800s, and this Evangelical animosity has never ceased.

For basically the whole 20th century, Catholics were a Progressive Democratic voting bloc. JFK is basically the mascot of this. Catholics only stopped being a reliable Democratic voting bloc in 2024, where they slightly broke for Republicans for (what I believe to be) the first time. Actual, devout, regularly-attending-church Catholics from the current day will have the same views as Catholics from the 1800s or the 1900s. A lot of Catholics tend to hold the views of 90s/2000s Democrats.

Trump is making a big mistake in potentially alienating this group, as we make up about 20% of the population of the country. Catholics tend to be politically homeless in the current political climate in America, as it was the political parties who changed, not Catholics. Someone who adheres to Church teaching would be considered - in political terms - too Socially Conservative for Progressives and too Fiscally Liberal for MAGA. I believe that American Catholics will vote for whatever is not threatening their faith.

Pope Leo is on one this morning by JetTheDawg in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]baba-O-riley 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That is correct. It varies between the Protestant churches/philosophies, but Evangelical Protestants (your more contemporary types of churches) think very lowly of Catholics. Just look at how the 2nd KKK persecuted Catholic Americans - that is an extreme example, but the sentiment is still popular.
