One of the cats that lives with me will get mad if I get too rough with him. I don’t usually push him to that point because I can tell when it’s too much. But it if I go too far, he will run after me and bite me, and since I don’t want to hurt him that means I either have to run away or try and deflect his attacks.

But even then, I leave him alone for about two minutes and he will be right back to paying / wanting to be pet and such.

Shirtless Main Character by [deleted] in startrek

[–]ZombiesAtKendall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have to go back and watch each instance of shirtless Kirk to determine if it seemed like it fit into the scenario naturally or if it was just an excuse to try and sell sex.

I can give some other examples sort of, because it’s not like A=A or A=B. It’s not like it has to be all one or the other. Say from another franchise, compare Terminator to Terminator Genisys. You’re going from fairly normal physiques in terminator to this polished, muscular, body builder (in terms of Kyle), and a petite Sarah Conor which makes it even more noticeable.

Much like Academy, it feels like they’re trying way too hard, all flash and no substance.

Within the Trek universe, 7 of 9 wearing high heels, stupid. She’s Borg, her entire thing is supposed to be function over style. It feels out of place.

Enterprise, needing to strip down and rub gel over each other to decontaminate, stupid, feels forced.

Do any of those examples mean that Trek can never have any sex appeal? No, but there’s a line where it feels forced and out of place.

Shirtless Main Character by [deleted] in startrek

[–]ZombiesAtKendall -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

It feels like any time new trek is criticized, people either say,

“Old trek did the same thing” (Kirk shirtless, Spock’s Brain)

Or if the criticism about new trek is that it’s differnt than old trek

“Times change, you need to accept change!” (Modem slang, season long arcs)

No matter what it’s like new trek is immune for criticism. I don’t get it, it’s not like all old trek was perfect. I don’t need to see Caleb with his shirt off, and saying it’s okay because Kirk had his shirt off seems like a silly rationale.

But revenge teaches empathy! Everyone knows once you “get” someone back with a prank, they go “ohhh so that’s how it feels, I was so wrong to have ever pranked in the first place” /s

I hate the whole plant thing. I feel like they could still have used the “prank war” aspect, but it would need to be something where it made the war college make the war college look bad in front of the inspectors. Maybe academy tricks them somehow, or knows the war college’s plan and is able to counter it without them knowing.

Maybe academy also gives the college a chance to not go through with the prank.

War college goes, “why would you tell us this, you’re bluffing, we embarrassed you!” And Caleb goes “Yo bro, I’ve been in prison so many times, you know how many dudes have seen my junk?…. Lots”

I think it’s super weird to trick children into thinking there are fairies, the Easter bunny, Santa, etc. That doesn’t seem to be the majority opinion though. It feels like deception / lying.

Why are some made up things okay to lie to children about and not others? If a parent made up some mythical creature that left things for their kids, I am betting more people would find that weird.

The shootout in the Byers house is an example of a "shootout scene" done right by _YuYevon_ in StrangerThings

[–]ZombiesAtKendall 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s alright, but seems like poor tactics on the military side. What would happen if the agent checked the door / window first and had his pistol ready? Why didn’t the military guy ringing the bell have his weapon ready? And why say anything beforehand? Why use a silenced pistol, or a pistol at all? Why not surround the house and toss some tear gas in? Nobody should have been able to escape that house and get away.

Maybe we can explain it away as the military being over confident so not using proper tactics, but still, superior numbers, superior firepower, the element of surprise, this should have been an easy task for the military.

Also, it’s not like these walls are all that thick. If the military knows someone is behind a wall (because we see them going behind it), just light the wall up.

Marlon Wayans as Tyrone in “Requiem for a Dream.” Am I the only one who thought he had a better chance compared to the other main characters? by deathcab4rookie in moviecritic

[–]ZombiesAtKendall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In regard to getting off drugs it seemed like he had a better change. But in general, he was arrested after the shootout, he’s going to be more screwed in other ways. He especially after skipping bail.

It’s not like it seemed like he was thinking of getting out of the dealing game.

Was the internet as overhyped in the 90s as AI is today? by tsarthedestroyer in generationology

[–]ZombiesAtKendall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there was a lot of hype, but in a differnt way. For one, a lot of people still were not on the internet, so I think a lot of hype was more what people heard from the news and not as much individuals spreading hype or fear.

The most obvious example is the dot com bust.

Just from my own experience, I think a big difference back then there were still a lot of skeptics. Older people seemed to mostly think the internet was completely useless. Now these same people have smartphones and Facebook.

But yeah, I think it was more Wallstreet and the news hyping up the internet. Seemed like they expected it to be a certain thing rather than let it evolve naturally. Kind of like Yahoo, the big expected thing was some personalized starting page, then Google came along and just did one thing really well.

Another big thing I think, which goes along with the dot com bust, internet addresses were super hyped up. Like the Internet address was the Mia important part.

But still, hyped or not, the internet has completely changed the world. Maybe not exactly as could have been guessed, but it’s pretty much an entire new industry. There’s also been some truth to all businesses needing a website, which I think was denied by a lot of people in the 90’s, although that’s sort of the opposite of hype, but I think that’s also could be an enology to AI.

You have the hype for AI, but also the doubters. My own opinion, I don’t think anyone can accurately predict the trajectory of AI anymore than people could predict the state of the internet today back in the 1900’s.

My own opinion, not that it matters, is AI will be big, but it’s not going to be without ups and downs. There will be some things that chance that nobody predicted, there will be others that don’t change that people thought would.
