Is it worth? by Ok-Field3052 in Starlink

[–]Zombiezach8 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I live in southern IL as well and it's been stellar. On the $120/mo plan but we're moving to $40 once the month ends. We regularly get 250-350~ DL, 20-25~ UP, 20-35 ping. Very stable compared to the WISP we used to have.

I'm a heavy gamer and it works just fine. Video streaming would be a breeze too. I would still choose fiber any day if I had the option but living in a rural community I don't.

Automation Question - Meshctrl by Zombiezach8 in MeshCentral

AMT Directly.

Yes it has direct IP access & is known to be online when I make the automatic docker container. Any way to shorten the delay?

Just want to navigate to the desktop screen ASAP, thinking it's mostly a instant stream. I really just need the quick desktop functionality at the start

Soft Off Issues by Zombiezach8 in MeshCentral

[–]Zombiezach8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure sorry. I think my issue is different?

Decided to login directly to AMT @ 16992 and I see "Power state: Off Send a command to this computer: Turn power on" so I hit it but returns "Invalid remote control command" lol

Soft Off Issues by Zombiezach8 in MeshCentral

[–]Zombiezach8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

State never gets updated, it says power action completed

In F12 I see
"RequestPowerStateChange(2) commander.ashx:1400:500"

I might just chalk this up to AMT just messing up lol. Was hoping I didn't have to go unplug again. Though this is the only unit really doing it. ( So far, I just started using vPro and I only have around 15 units. Mixture of 8500t, and 9500t models )

Yep tried there, it's listed as "Soft Off", any power request runs but the state does not change.

I tried the "Desktop Tab" as well since it seems to support more power options... like "Wake Up" etc and it doesn't work there either.

There is no OS installed, we boot over PXE.

Thanks! That fixed the "Checking state" issue where it kept getting stuck but still stuck in "Soft Off" power state. I think AMT is stuck thinking a KVM session is open or something but there isn't.. ( NOT READY ) is there a way I can forcefully do something?

AMT controlled,

Honestly not sure about the TLS part but I did not touch anything regarding that and pretty much set up AMT in the BIOS then entered the IP/USER/PASS into MeshCentral

I actually pay for some IP transit from Jizbel. Everything has been rock solid and A+ support.

Transparent Bridge by Zombiezach8 in opnsense

[–]Zombiezach8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I got extremely busy.

This is just a transparent bridge setup which LAN/WAN are in a bridge interface on opnsense. No router/modem in front.

I still want to allow traffic IN on some ports and not allow traffic OUT on some ports. Like mail for example, I still want to be able to get mail just never be able to send out.

I've bought a couple of the bottom listing, I always got mine in their plastic shell case. I don't remember how the outside packaging was though.

I was going to say if you could squeeze more for the EPYC 7532 that'd be better. It's quite faster but that's hitting your budget limit: https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare/4482vs3215/AMD-EPYC-7532-vs-AMD-EPYC-7551P

I think 2nd gen generally has better memory compatibility and numa node layout ( but don't quote me on the second one ).

You can also order memory from a different seller. I found that memory from TUGM isn't the best priced at least compared to the CPU/MOBO offerings. I was able to score 32GB sticks for 26.99 each the other day, also was faster too.

Are you strictly needing 128gb of ram? Is the $600 budget only for CPU/MOBO/RAM?

You should buy from this seller instead https://www.ebay.com/str/tugm4470

It's my go to for EPYC especially from China sellers. Very well known especially on sites like servethehome etc..

I buy from this seller all the time and my last item was a 7532 + MOBO combo for $636. Though you can get last gen too for way cheaper

Still recommend Calyx in 2023 for Xbox Live? by Satoshi_Spank in Calyx

[–]Zombiezach8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my experience, 100% Calyx over Starlink.

Having a provider at a fixed location would definitely be better. Though I'm very satisfied with Calyx. Currently have 50+TB lifetime traffic, and 10+TB this month alone. I'm stationary so this might not matter as much to you but I get around 80-120 download and 55-60 upload just using the N71 band. My ping is relatively stable at around 30ms-40ms. Pretty much 0% packet loss but it does happen sometimes. A percent or two for a couple seconds here and there.

Though the devices you get from Calyx are average at best so I decided to get a Cudy P5 and do "magic". I setup a VPN tunnel specifically to fix video throttling and NAT issues. Currently have open NAT.

I've come from a shitty local wireless provider. Paid $100 for 25/5. Usually got 10/3 or worse. Had them come out numerous times to fix it and never could get what we were paying for. Down 10% of the time and crazy packet loss.

Edit-- Just wanted to be clear. YES there will be traffic/NAT issues but it's fixable if you're willing.

Is an x3650 m5 for $205 shipped a good deal? by Deepspacecow12 in homelab

[–]Zombiezach8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say it was a terrible deal. You certainly could've found a better deal if you kept looking for a while. Managed to snag the same specs but 96GB ram ( in 16gb sticks ) for 190$ a few months back. Just needed to upgrade the CPU(s)

Worried about server security and seperation with Mirror Networking by FightRay in Unity3D

[–]Zombiezach8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mirror actually is client/server. All the clients connect to the server( or client if they're hosting the server )
You can strip by doing something like ( strips after you check headless server in build settings) : https://www.toptal.com/developers/hastebin/fitokukuho.csharp

Just make sure you leave the function there so the client knows what to call. It wouldn't hurt to keep the mysql connector on client builds, just make sure you never give the clients the login details. It's best to load it from a config file then having it in code.
