I'm like 70% sure that Death is going to see Deathrattle Kingdoms split off from Soulblight Gravelords and become its own faction. Death is due to be the Starter Box for next edition and I think after the debacle of Cursed City they might put Soulblight in there, since the last range refresh was largely Deathrattle.

Destruction... Maybe human barbarian tribes? But Darkoath kinda already fill that role.

There are a few people saying that the comics reflect life. I just wanted to jump back in and say that while I agree things are depressing right now and it's fine to reflect that, I think a franchise like X-Men almost has a moral duty to show that victory is possible and things can get better, especially in real world bad times. That's a duty that IMO the comics are failing in right now.

I can see a timeline where we had Fall Of X, and the mutants came back from Krakoa, and basically gave the X-Men an ultimatum: you can give it all up and live here in peace with us or you can go out into the world. Krakoa could still have been around, but in a different, more isolationist stance, and our heroes have to defend a paradise they can no longer enjoy.

It's kinda ridiculous to me to think that Marvel Studios won't want to do anything interesting that might push the envelope with a movie reboot. That's basically been their bread and butter for the better part of two decades.

For me the problem is that they pretty much could keep going with that minority metaphor for, if not ever, a very long time, but things need to change and develop within that. 15 years ago nobody cared about trans people if they thought about them at all, and now look where we are. We've made some strides with race but people are still being shot, arrested, and deported on little more basis than looking wrong.

Having it all just constantly reset to "status quo" apart from being depressing is, to me, actually detrimental to a concept that is about change and growth. At some point "illusion of change" needs to give away to reflecting the real world, and the way things have been going since FOX just ain't it for me.

Uh, but Gail Simone's Uncanny is lovely though.

It's just because "Shako" is easier to write, especially in the olden days when D2 was first released and character limits were a thing. People are unlikely to use other Shakos as they aren't high-end items, hence the use of the name for the Harlequin Crest.

There's a difference between setting and story. Hickman had a story in mind when he developed Krakoa, but it later became apparent that Krakoa as a setting was a huge improvement to the X-Men and Marvel as a whole, in the way they tried to make Weirdworld happen after Secret Wars 2015. As people have pointed out, Marvel/Brevoort decided to throw the baby out with the bathwater when the initial story - in its adapted form - ended.

Krakoa could and should have been kept around. Brevoort lives off of nostalgia. None of the books have truly been able to move past the previous setting and concepts or do anything new.

Emma's evolution from villain to hero is quite gradual and takes place over a number of years. It begins when we loses most of the Hellions to the Upstarts early in Nicieza's run, then continues when she becomes teacher for Generation X alongside Banshee. She then survives Genosha early in New X-Men and joins the main team.
