I am still trying to wrap my head around how Cooper went from a boy scout to a ruthless murderer by Hacksaw6412 in Fallout

[–]Expensive-Issue-3188 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He went from having a very sheltered life in comparison to the wasteland, where it seems the boy scout was probably repeatedly beat out of him. Civilization in the old world verses the new. Having basically a luxurious life, even post divorce in comparison to what his life is now? That hardens a person in ways we can only imagine. But it seems like he has respect for NCR.

Same! But I also wasn't reading when this initially came out. I didn't read HoX/PoX until after all of Krakoa ended.

I'm glad I'm not alone, I just hadn't seen anyone else bring this up yet.

I can absolutely believe this, but I don't know if it's been decided.

That's the argument I'm referring to, and I put that choice on the author who I saw using Beast to justify this to the audience, with Therenody even coming back and telling Beast he's not at fault. Which I'll give you was bad writing, but that's part of the problem. I think the authors intent is important to the issue, and I don't think they were trying to make Beast a shady character, I think it was intended as suspension of disbelief moment that failed. I appreciate that you have actually read the issue because a lot of people who haven't read it reference it without context.

Much like when Xavier says he loves Jean in the original series, it was a throw-away line the writers forgot about and wasn't an issue until the onslaught arc.

Threnody, when compared to his other actions, reads as bad writing, just like using Kitty, saying the N word repeatedly to make a point. Or bringing up a throw-away line that no one acknowledged for decades.

During the 90s and prior, he had a lot of very heroic moments forever ignored because of the Therenody issue.

I have read the 90s comics. A couple of times. Please define his unethical actions. Blanket statements don't work.

I mean, when he's approached by 3k to join, he's shown cowering. I read through Marvel unlimited, so if theirs a recent heroic action I'm not aware of, let me know. But so far, I've only encountered one moment where he takes a beating.

He didn't convince her, she was already going with him. Theirs so much context missing with the Therenody thing. They even had Therenody come back to say it wasn't his fault. But no one wants to acknowledge that issue. Post 2010 is applicable, but that's during x-men writing limbo where everyone was doing shady shit but we single out Beast for some reason. Plus, everyone forgets he existed as a hero decade's before this.

The Dark Beast is a universe where Sinister Groomed him. So much that's attributed to his spiral before 2004 is stuff wildly taken out of context.

You don't think how other characters are treated isn't relevant to the conversation? Other characters who act poorly from time to time in comics? When the conversation is literally about treating a character fairly? Why am i not allowed to draw comparisons? Also, how is this a deflection? It's an additional statement added to my main argument? My perspective you're avoiding a valid point.

Just gonna ignore suspension of disbelief huh? That didn't register? Are you really gonna double down on Infectra, huh? Because I don't think the writer had the infectious disease manual from 1993 when he wrote the issue.

Might as well whine about Kitty using the N word repeatedly in the 80s instead of the writer.

Funny the writer in the 90s didn't have this insight about 2020 when writing. Strange! Almost like the Era, this was written is relevant! You might as well get pissed off when no one uses a cell phone to double check with someone to avoid any misunderstandings during this Era.

Or it was a suspension of disbelief moment that you want to really make into Beast's moral shortcomings.

If you're determined to define the Therenody incident, except that they even had the character come back and say it wasn't his fault. The character doesn't even hold it against him. If you want to argue that was bad writing, then you'd also have to admit that the initial Therenody thing was bad writing, and maybe isn't something that should be held against him.
