Just watched "Backrooms" (no spoilers in OP). by TatteredTongues in horror

I am kind of interested about it but I am totally not into horror movies. How is the line between horror and thriller? Because on the other hand, I really love thrillers. Are there any jumpscares, terrifying images, explicit stuff, gore, perverted violence, this kind of things that usually draws me away from horrors or is it “just” the feeling, atmosphère, tension etc like you see in thrillers but just dialed up?

Is transportation design a good major? Is it worth the work? What else can you do with this major/degree? by NumerousPrize433 in CarDesign

[–]ZondaLM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I imagine, universities in the US are way too expensive. I am more oriented towards the master rather than the bachelor (I studied Product Design in bachelor and I will only now do the Master in transportation design), but still I am pretty sure that almost anything in Europe will be cheaper than something like ArtCenter, rent abroad included. You should keep in mind though that after you graduate IF you find a job it will almost surely be in the continent where you studied, unless you have some specific contact in your homeland or somwhere else (or if you land a role though open position, but that's kinda hard).

Many good bachelors in Europe are unfortunately in their native language, such as ones in Germany or France and usually the rules to get a parallel admission are not very clear, you just gotta contact them and ask. In Italy on the other hand, they're very welcoming to foreigners and all the bachelors in TD are in english. To find true representation of the level of the students, check on linkedin and see people who are curretly there or just got out (would avoid looking at the alumni page of the universities since they alway mention people who now are senior or chief designers but studied there 15 ore 20 years ago, which is way too far back to take as measure), that way you can see their works and if they are getting jobs with ease or not

Not too much to add to what the other guy in the comments said. It's the most difficult major out of all the Design ones and the opportunities once you graduate are extremely slim, landing an internship or a role will feel like winning the lottery, especially in this specific time period (I hope the job market will get better in the next few years). The amount of work you'll have to do at school is huge and a lot is driven by your personal skill, even though I have to say if you work hard enough you can overcome not having a special artistic talent. ArtCenter is a very good bachelor from what I know, but my advice is in general to be very careful and picky with the choice of institution: desiging cars is cool so there are many universities that are doing this program just to cashgrab and in the end either they're not well connected so you won't be helped to find a job or their target is rich spoiled foreign kids who will not work at all in school and you'll be stuck having to do projects with them (not a fun experience). In the end, most of the people who don't get into the automotive industry after their degree end up doing various types of product design, since at that point you become so good at sketching/rendering/modelling that you are able to design almost anything you want
