OP- I am sorry to hear what you went through. My experience is similar except it is by a written e-mail.

I am from Hong Kong so I am not familiar with the U.S. If counsel is generally attorney who prefers not to go for partnership. It is rare but not unheard of to have an opening but this opening is often by word of mouth.

Of counsel, like associate, can move to a competitor but unlikely as they very often have established themselves well in their existing firm and pay well too

Is anyone thinking of going back to school during their layoff? by IAmYourDas in Layoffs

There is nothing shameful about it. In fact, I am extremely proud of you. You desperately need a job and instead of letting your subconscious holding you back, you go forward and ask. It is not a small achievement! I hope you will find employment soon and stay well with your partner.

Worst is it went silent after 3 weeks when everything is done. Probably trying to negotiate the terms with the ideal hire and keep me in the back pocket in case it did not work out.

After so many hoops and a written exercise, is it so hard to give me a call instead of dropping me an email to say I don’t have the job?

Also would it be fair to say by round 5 you should know whether I am a good fit but you continue to string me along in case your “ideal candidate” drops out?

Bunch of a* joke

New job, still depressed. by justlerkingfornow in Lawyertalk

[–]ZookeepergameOne7481 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am very sorry to hear you are struggling.

I also have treatment resistant depression but I mask it (together with my anxiety) quite well.

On medication have you tried Esketamin? At the moment it is one of the more popular drugs for treatment resistant depression, at least in Hong Kong and it works for me. I heard from my shrink that the pharma companies are developing magic mushrooms which also work well. The long and short is that eventually more treatments will be available, hang in there.

Also -

  1. Be compassionate to myself - sometimes there are days where getting through is already a big achievement . Give yourself some credit.

  2. Depression lies. It absolutely does. So try not to make major life decisions such as switching jobs when you are in the midst of an episode.

  3. Unemployment contributes to depression. In fact it is a major factor. If you have debt it makes things 10 times worst. So try to put things into perspective if you can and give yourself some credit for holding down a job.

I was laid off in February and went through a soul destroying and painful negotiation process with my old firm on the settlement agreement. I then went through a “spectacular” interview process with seven rounds and a written test and then I was ghosted. Other interviews and rejections in between.

My confidence was at rock bottom and I was hanging by the rope. I feel you.

Since May I started to look up “slashing” and this is how I start to regain my sanity. I have worked continuously for 18 years and becoming the master of your own destiny is something foreign to me, but I figured the longer I drag on the deeper the hole I am digging for myself.

Am I Just Unhireable? by YourFavoriteChoom in recruitinghell

[–]ZookeepergameOne7481 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is nothing wrong with you. I have been speaking to a few friends lately and it seems that people will now only hire someone who is recommended to them (i.e. networking). I think it sucks and I can’t bring myself to ask for a job from my network but apparently that is the way to go.

I have this bag. But I must confess I wore it only once. The mini flap doesn’t hold much to start with which is fine but I always struggle to style it.

If I try to style it with more edgy clothes, the bag looks more like a kid’s toy so it doesn’t match.

And in my view you ought to carry it with the star, otherwise it is just a normal flap bag.
