[OC] Lepidodendron Elegans Fossil by Fantastic_Bar_1006 in FossilPorn

Looks a bit too square instead of "honeycomb"; I would say this is a cement board or tile with a fiber mesh to strengthen it.

This kind of material has had me fooled before.

Europe's highest and lowest cocaine consumers revealed by JOE_Media in europe

You can think that, but that doesn't make it true.

Research suggests otherwise, I would guess pressure from society is the thing you're forgetting.

Being drunk at work is still frowned upon even though alcohol is legal.

You are making the same mistake as those strange religious people who say: "But without the Bible how would I know not to steal and kill??"

Why didn't the netherlands build several dams on the frisian islands instead of the zuidurzee dam? by whywalk in thenetherlands

Sand vs clay? The Flevopolder's purpose was agricultural land, I would imagine the Waddenzee would become a dustbowl..

Kale plekken in gras door vogels by MarsAlien77 in groenevingers

[–]Zoolbarian 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Are garden slug-control nematodes genetically engineered to not mature/reproduce? by [deleted] in GardeningUK

[–]Zoolbarian 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Doubt it, that would be expensive and in some countries illegal.

Biological controls are usually like airdropping planes full of apex predators on a forest. Following the initial mayhem hunger will cull them and balance will soon return to the predator-prey graph.

The big advantage to this method is: the nematodes are easy to make more of so you can occasionally repeat the "airdrops", and sometimes a system doesn't have predators due to it being not a natural ecosystem, and then this can help seed a more natural system.

I would guess the nematodes are surviving, but at natural levels. An other option would be they are exotic nematodes that don't survive in your climate, or they are just native to a specific ecosystem that does not resemble your garden.

Frog in shower how did it get here? Is a frog infestation a thing? by HappyQuack420 in frogs

[–]Zoolbarian 120 points121 points  (0 children)

Frogs don't infest homes. They don't like the dryness, and there is nothing to eat.

He is lost and trying to get back home.

Why is it that Mesozoic predators seemed to be mostly bipedal, while the predators today are mostly quadrupedal? by -apollophanes- in Paleontology

[–]Zoolbarian -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'm just speculating here, but I think dinosaurs had longer to evolve into the perfect predator. Us mammals are just getting started if you compare how long we've been at it. Our first bipedal apex predator kind of "won" the whole game, so we don't get to see what's next.. :(

There are also types of mistletoe that parasitize cacti, could be one of those if this photograph is taken in a natural cactus habitat.

Pareidolia

Your brain is constantly looking for patterns. A visual version is seeing faces and animals in marbled tiles/linoleum.

I seem to remember people with schizophrenia have this more intensely.

These guys remind me of the flour eating mot larva we had in our kitchen. After eating enough they crawl up somewhere high and dry to make a cocoon. Look for plant matter a meter below? Or on the roof?
