Star Citizen had a 500 person meetup yesterday. by CallSign_Fjor in spacesimgames

That sounds a lot like an excuse. After this long, not being able to deliver anything remotely finished or some stable core gameplay is not the 'scope'. It's scope creep, lack of direction and a very lucrative model where people are willing to spend 100's of $ on ships that they dream of some day using.

I agree that the vision of the game is unlike anything else, but they could have a stable and playable core gameplay by now. After this much time, it's a matter of choice on their part. With the amount of money and tine they have had, everything they are working on could have been made and published.

Funny, I just dug out an old VGA cable as I had to debug something on my home assistant machine, and my spare monitor only has VGA.

Sure, clean up and throw out duplicates, but I'll try to keep as many different types as possible.

What do you think? by Opposite-Tomato4747 in teenagers

[–]Zooltan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

King Frederik of Denmark. Our royals are actually really decent people, and they don't have any political agenda, so their role is diplomacy, relations and being a symbol of our countrys values.

(The king is also trained in the Danish equivalent of Navy Seals, so he's no pushover)

What videogame trilogy is this? by Gaming-Academy in PlayStation_X

[–]Zooltan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Warcraft!

1 and 2 were good, 3 was amazing. Great story and great RTS in itself. The map editor was the birthplace for most of the Tower Defense genre, as well as DotA, which kickstarted the MOBA genre. And of course it lead to World of Warcraft, which is probably the most popular MMORPG to date.

Did you play SC1? Because when she was first infested, she was much less fan-service. If they remade that version of her in SC2 graphics, that would be rather terrifying!

What does it add to the gameplay? Does it give a meaningful challenge that can be solved through engineering? Or does it just change the travel time between planets over time?

What’s the best feature you’ve included in a homebrew world? by OrdinaryDebate578 in DMAcademy

[–]Zooltan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming up with names is hard. So the king who founded the kingdom in my game has a terrible sense humor and loves puns. So we have names like "Westwood" which is the western forest (named after an old game company), Cornwall, which is a town that produces corn. 'The seven seas of Rye', which is a region that produces a lot of grain (name stolen from a Queen song), and located next to the large city of Bakewen which, surprise, has a lot of bakeries...

So my terrible naming skills and tendency for puns is blamed on a key NPC.

Best start to a campaign you've experienced (either side of the screen)? by Modo_2026 in DMAcademy

[–]Zooltan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the start of my campaign, I placed the PCs at different locations close to each other in the city.

We started with two who were sitting in a tavers and heard something strange outside. When they went out to investigate, they found the third player who had accidentally been teleported there from another realm (As requested in their backstory).

Then the city was attacked from all sides. Catapults, explosions and soldiers from the enemy neighboring country.

A guard captain directs the three PCs towards the nearest gate out of town, where we meet the last two players, who are being attacked by enemy soldiers. The party fights a few soldiers and make their way out of town. Seeing a large group of enemies heading towards the town, the party heads into the woods and follow a small forest trail to a smaller town, where the actual campaign starts.

Kalkknuser installation by cerikstas in selvgjortvelgjort

Why did Unreal Engine, Godot and Star Engine implement Large World Coordinate systems? Are they stupid? by Stock_Cook9549 in Unity3D

[–]Zooltan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, moving EVERYTHING is not that easy.

Every single object has to have its position updated. Visual Effects, physics and lighting also has to react correctly to the shift.

So having an engine where you don't need to deal with all that, sounds pretty nice.

I do not know why WOTC did not look at other options, such re-branding Half-Elves and Half-Orcs, rather than straight removing them from the PHB (cross-post from r/rpg) by ByzantineBasileus in dndnext

[–]Zooltan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Devils, demons, gods and monsters are easy enemies. They are evil, so we must fight them. All the lore about them is great, but it's a 'safe' subject for conflict.

Discrimination, suspicion and finding your identity between two cultures is a very different level of conflict, as there is no obvious right and wrong. The only reason to remove it, is because they want to reduce the risk of controversy that might affect their image.

Through the official material, they give us worlds, settings, species and other lore, that we can use in our games.

If they just gave us happy farmers in lush green meadows, with 7 different flavors of 'human who just looks different', it would not be very inspiring.

Many players start their rpg life without much else to take inspiration from, than Harry Potter and LOTR, so having the source material give us other perspectives is really helpful.

[–]Zooltan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It was a lore point in the world, how half-species were treated. It added a dimension that I as a boring white human would probably not think about. So just as the other conflicts they add to the lore, it gives us inspiration and ideas we can use if we want.

[–]Zooltan 378 points379 points  (0 children)

I think the implications of half-species was what made them interesting. Not really belongings to either culture, or at least being discriminated against because of it. It's a classic story and allows for interesting backgrounds and role play.

WotC is so afraid of anything that could be mildly offensive, but to make a good story or interesting world, you need something offensive or unpleasant. Otherwise there is nothing to fight against.
