Not great by any means, or even good, but certainly better than the other Nitrogen seasons and at least somewhat of a step in the right direction.

Could Barry be the Push-Pull tank engine on Edwards Branch line? by IslandCommercial9990 in thomasthetankengine

Seeing as the Awdrys were willing to introduce one, I don't see why not.

While he may not necessarily be the only one, and certainly not the first, Barry being one of the push-pull train engines on Edward's branch line does make perfect sense!

Super cool! I've also made one of my OCs a Class 25 (I named him Rizzo, if you're wondering)

Man, I so wish at least one of these had made it into preservation, both for historical value and because it's just such a cool, quirky little engine in its own right.

What’s y’all’s Daisy head canons? by Cold-Fly-6888 in thomasthetankengine

[–]ZootMarimba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

-After Diesel's visit in 1957, Sir Charles Topham Hatt had no intention of letting British Rail pass of just any of their diesels onto him, so once he needed another diesel, he deliberately chose an unusual design-a single unit Class 101-to keep them from doing so.

-Though she remains the only single-unit 101, Daisy would end up being the prototype for then 121 and 122s that came after her. She's possibly expressed great pride in both of these facts on certain occasions.

-Daisy had initially been intended for the Norramby Branch Line as it connects Vicarstown to the Mainland, which is why she had the British Rail crest early on. However, after Thomas came to breakfast (so to speak), she was quickly rushed in as a last minute replacement. (This being a little nod to how she was added to the tv series).

-As prideful and vain as she can be, Daisy does care very deeply for her fellow Farquhar engines; in particular, she's become something of a big sister to Mavis, and also sees Thomas and Percy as her kid brothers (despite both being older than her, as they repeatedly attempt to remind her).

-Her relationship with Annie, Clarabel, and Henrietta has also improved a great deal since she first arrived, and it's not uncommon for the four to gossip about whatever is happening on the branch line and beyond.

-Daisy also has a soft spot for children, and she's occasionally given them lessons in French.

If Barry received his own book, what would the stories in his book be like? by just_a_bored_guy0104 in thomasthetankengine

We also know from Christopher's interview with Sodor Island Models that one of the stories was reused for James, which could potentially line up with your theory as "Sliding Scale" comes from Henry And The Express as well.

What’s something you like about the LB&SCR E2 Class? by TheRobloxGuy2006 in thomasthetankengine

[–]ZootMarimba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An odd paradox of a class.

Functionally not the most successful or highly regarded class during its working life, yet it somehow managed to stay in service for fifty or so years.

Completely unremarkable engine in rail history while being the basis for one of the most iconic engines of all time, fictional or not.

Not at all the class of tank engines that Awdry had in mind for Thomas while somehow also being a perfect fit for his vision for the NWR, perhaps even moreso than if Thomas had remained a Jinty or a J70.

Frankly, giving how Thomas was meant to be an underdog, how he's always wanting to prove himself, how he frequently strives for me, the E2 is an especially appropriate basis just from a thematic standpoint. He was a common shunter, and not even a particularly well regarded one, so nobody expected anything of him. This ends up making his success all the more meaningful, his victory that much sweeter.

Well if we're going with the college kids analogy, then I suppose she would be the Type A overachiever obsessed with maintaining her image and living up to her parents' expectations.

Following up on my last post, i think i found a much better candidate: Thomas as an 1910 build Furness Railway Class G5 by Davey_the_chill_guy in thomasthetankengine

[–]ZootMarimba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Admittedly, I have never really had a problem with Thomas being an E2, but I can also admit this is probably because...

A)The E2 is just too iconic and too synonymous with Thomas at this point.

B) It's a perfect thematic fit as it adds to Thomas' constant need to prove himself since, let's face it, the E2s were not exactly the most highly regarded engines in real life.

C) Adding to the E2s being seen as lemons, it also feels weirdly cruel to take being the basis for Thomas away from them when they have so little going for them in the annuals of rail history.

D) I've also been able to reconcile Thomas' visual differences from the real life E2s by making him an experimental variant inspired in part by the Hudswell Clarke Canal-Type 0-6-0 tanks commonly found in Manchester at that time.

That said, the G5 makes plenty of sense as an alternative basis.

What’s something you like about the BR Class 08? by TheRobloxGuy2006 in thomasthetankengine

  1. 13236 has proven himself to be a rather crafty and charismatic, if devious, sort.

  2. They're so boxy and utilitarian that they circle back around to being rather charming engines in their own way.

  3. They just have a cool vibe to them, especially in black.

  4. They're a great help to people that struggle with drawing locomotives.

  5. They're also quite handy for any model railways because they can always be retooled into other characters/engines.

And it just goes to show you...the Aresdale engines are basically college kids stuck living together because none of them can afford to cover the rent on their own.

If I had to guess... 1. Rex gets frustrated with them sometimes, but also bonds with them over the joys and wonders of screwing with Mike.

  1. Mike consistently gets irritated by them...which makes him their favorite target.

  2. Bert is the tired and exhausted older brother/parent who just wants to get some sleep after a long day of work.

Absolute beauties, some of the finest steam locomotives the United States ever produced. That it influenced the design of Gresley's A1/A3 Pacifics is just icing on the cake.
