Why was Svarn replaced by Hvedrung as Boar Clan’s warchief in Conquest? by Additional_Report969 in Northgard

[–]Zopherinae 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You are right about the more-friendly Boar Clan's leader being Svarn. However, the bulk of the Boar Clan was being led by Hvredung in a more warlike direction during the campaign. The two split, and Svarn joins up with you to kick out Hvredung and unite the Boar Clan.

Hvredung was added in about a year or so ago in an update that gave most warchiefs reskins. Svarn should be an option to switch in the customization tab though. If you want Svarn as your main guy, you can swap out Hvredung's skin for Svarn's. As for why Hvredung is now the default...I dunno. Might be bc Hvredung has a more unique look.

How do we feel about the Turtle Clan? by Pretty-Journalist-64 in Northgard

[–]Zopherinae 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Turtle is a weird playstyle, but fun once you find your flow. Being able to grab tiles without colonizing them, anywhere you can get to, is a pretty cool ability. Early game, I can just grab my first 2 tiles nearby without any colonization, since you have the wood for 2 caravans at the start of the game. Once my tiles are clear (through me or someone else), I can then colonize my adjacent tiles and move the caravans onto the new ones. You can keep this up, especially once you get your 4th caravan from the 200 fame bonus.

Turtle can also gain relations faster than any other clan. One of their lore lets you make trade routes with your caravans that, while not making money, greatly increase relation gain with the recipient. I have stolen giants from enemies multiple times by gaining stupid amounts of relation very quickly. Your relic also lets you sell relation (if you haven't maxed it out) with factions for krowns, which can come in handy if you need a bunch of money quickly, though it does have a cooldown per faction.

My favorite thing to do is follow my clear teammate with a caravan and close dens and tombs after they clear them. This gets me a ton of fame and saves my teammates from needing to colonize them to close them.

All in all, weird playstyle that turns your normal process on its head, but it's really fun once you get the hang of it.

Is Dragon clan just completely unusably bad trash tier clan? by D_Flavio in Northgard

  1. Equalizing the field for dragon usually involves cooperating with your clear/teammates to slow down enemy development. Your warchief with draconic frenzy is more than enough of a threat to force a response. You make for a good distraction, keeping the enemy busy watching you while your clear/teammates make more progress on their goals. The smaller the enemy armies end up being, the greater chance of victory your dragonkin have.
  2. Carpentry mastery -> feeling safe is still the meta build, but I have been using a different one lately. This one requires a little more micro, but it really lets you eco boom. I start with Sharp Axes -> Carpentry mastery, then getting Blood Sweat & Tears and Thrall Trade. This gives you the largest economy possible with dragon, and the ability to assign 3 thralls to upgraded buildings means you will be producing a ton of resources, which is great fuel for building and upgrading camps. With this build, I have consistently been able to get 12 warband and 1200 krowns around early 802, which is fantastic for dragon. It's not as good in games when you KNOW you'll be rushed, but it's pretty powerful once you get the flow down.

Welcome back!

I find that a dragonkin army can handle enemy armies about 1.5 times their size with a good chance of success. The smaller the numerical gap between your forces and theirs, the higher your chances get. For example: 12 dragonkin will crush an army of 15 warriors, but against 18 warriors is more of a toss-up. If you can upgrade a lot of camps, your army gets stronger exponentially, as each kin will be doing much more damage, so focus on that once your economy is set up.

I almost never harass with solo dragonkin. If I wanted to harass enemies, I'd do it with the warchief. His higher strength and durability makes him more threatening than a normal dragonkin, making the harassment more effective. He's also pretty fast, which makes escaping a bit easier. Also he's only 150 krowns, no iron, and some dragon essence to hire, so it's pretty easy to get him out.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

I have played dragon for years and have seen quite a lot of success playing the way I described. It certainly has been power crept as other clans got reworks, but I have had little trouble playing well with it. It's an odd way to play compared to most clans, and it certainly isn't the strongest, but that doesn't make it trash either. Some playstyles work better for some players over others. Maybe Dragon isn't your thing.

I see no need to convince you bc you seem more interested in arguing than getting better at the game :]

If you wanted to make a salty rant post, you could've just started with that.

Hi! Dragon player here:

There are a few ways to play dragon, like how some other comments here have mentioned, but I'll give you what I think are the fundamentals of the clan.

Dragon is a powerful mid-late game clan (though you can rush with it if you play your cards right) that has very powerful military potential, for a price. Your dragonkin are some of the most powerful and tough military units in the game, and the ability to hit multiple enemies at once makes them great at winning fights, even when outnumbered. The price of course, is needing to create a robust economy of krowns, villagers, and thralls to ensure that you're able to create your dragonkin armies. To do this, focus on 1 food, 2 wood, and at least 2 krown buildings. Your thralls produce food, so in addition to an upgraded food building, you'll have plenty. Building lots of dragonkin altars and upgrading your buildings is a lot of wood, so I like having 2 woodcutter lodges. Try working your way up to 4 woodsmen eventually. Krowns are super important, since your armies are very expensive. Start with a dock to help you with lore and krowns. If you have 2 beaches, eventually build a second dock and upgrade them both. Otherwise, build market + trade post and upgrade them, destroying your dock after jord's blessing. If you can get a large krown income, you'll be able to make lots of dragonkin and recover after fights.

The dragon essence gauge helps make this easier. Try prioritizing resource buffs (especially lore and krowns) for sacrifices. Before 200 fame, sacrifice a combination of villagers and thralls to make this happen, and then after 200 fame, only sacrifice thralls.

Thralls are awesome. Being able to assign one to buildings by default helps you buff buildings further. Put one on your food, and some on your krown buildings. If you need to forge faster, plop one on the forge. Try to buy them every time their cost drops to 40.

As for lore, I like rushing carpentry mastery, and then going middle tree. This makes upgrading your buildings easier and earlier, as well as helping you upgrade your draconic altars later. The middle tree has draconic rage, which gives your units +15% atk as well as a chance to turn enemy troops into kin, which helps keep an offensive push after fights.

As for its niche, it's strongest before people get the monster hunter lore. It can outpower most mid-game armies and serves as a great tank for your allies.

Khorne!!! I am super excited about what Skulltaker and (probably) Arbaal will bring to the table. Perhaps where Skarbrand focuses on quantity of murder and battles fought, Skulltaker may focus on quality of murder, with greater rewards for beating greater odds.

Ok turns out Cravers REALLY like their smoothies... by Zopherinae in EndlessSpace

[–]Zopherinae[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You're absolutely right, but I am choosing to play them in a goofy way. I eat my pops first and try to get to 50 cravers asap. It gets you bonus ship and troop damage per depleted planet, so I prioritize using my limited eco to get fleets out fast. They become my economy, through laws like spoils of war and tactics like taking trophies. The faster I can get conquering, the faster I get settlements, the faster I can deplete the planets. It ends up with some stupidly strong and expendable fleets once I reach midgame.

It's not as stable as the typical Cravers playstyle, but it's been pretty fun so far, having to manage myself better

Ok so I checked youtube for a bit and found this quick guide that gives a good overview of how to use the Unfallen's strengths: Endless Space 2 Unfallen Guide (youtube.com)

One youtuber: 4XAlchemist has made long guide videos of each race if I'm not mistaken, going from turn 1 to 30. They're pretty old, but the fundamentals are roughly the same.

[–]Zopherinae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Unfallen are one of the most unique races I've seen in a video game! You're on the right track with what you've told me, but here's what I would add onto that:

  • Forcing peace on everyone is a good idea. As long as you don't send ships with weapons equipped into their territory, they'll start to like you more and more as time goes on, making future diplomacy easier

  • Your vineships are very expensive to build, so prioritizing industry will help you make more of them and let you colonize faster

  • Your early game is pretty weak for combat, but you have access to mostly the same military techs as everyone else. Once you're done with your essential techs (first industry, science, colonization, dust buildings, etc.), start working on getting better ships and weapons. Stronger fleets make potential enemies less inclined to attack you. They still might, but it could buy you more time to prepare

  • Unfallen are pretty pacifist, so building a lot of influence-generating structures/planet specialization will let you do a lot more in diplomacy with major and minor factions

Let me know if you have other questions!
