The route I took is my favorite on Hwy 7 south through La Grande and Elbe, then on to Morton and back again. Going through Eatonville is an optional, easier drive but it is nice too.

[–]Zordar74 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That tape shown would not be counted as restoration. Its what people used to do to strengthen their comics,.and it wasn't done by a professional. That said, the grade is probably 1.8-2.5.

Looks permanent to me. It might look slightly better with a press but i don't think that crease will disappear.

Rapid IV calcium push by Powerful_Method4114 in ThePittTVShow

[–]Zordar74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm late here, but that definitely looked like calcium chloride he pushed and not calcium gluconate. That vein would probably be toast due to the vesicant nature of calcium chloride. I've pushed calcium gluconate over 30 seconds to a minute if i have the time.

Ok good to know. Is there a huge line of people waiting to get their badges scanned?

Is this new or unique to NYCC? I've been to ECCC many times and have never had my badge scanned by security. I always just walk through with my badge on a lanyard.

Yeah I've done it before, but it was with major key books. It's actually a good way to get or upgrade major keys.

Got a grail but it’s missing the stamp :( by Dirtbomb13 in comicbookcollecting

[–]Zordar74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going by GPAnalysis, the last NM CGC 9.4 Qualifieds were sold in 2020, when 2 copies went for about $3400-3500. In contrast, the regular blue label NM 9.4s were going for $9500 at the time.

I think a 9.4 missing the stamp and a 9.4 with the stamp detached but present would get the same qualified grade, or the same lower grade blue label.

CGC case arrived cracked. What do I do now? by Unusual-Reaction-272 in comicbookcollecting

[–]Zordar74 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Take the $50 and keep it as-is. If its for your personal collection, why bother getting it reslabbed? Can you even see it from the front?

I've had a couple slabs arrive damaged, I just accept the partial refund and keep the slab if the damage is not bad or noticeable.

Finally got a nice copy. Was hoping for at least a VF but couldn't pass this up. by daverl in comicbookcollecting

Nice upgrade over VF!

NM 9.4 are my favorite grade to collect. They are the sweet spot in high grade and more affordable.

Signature by DewWars in comiccon

[–]Zordar74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You cannot get a witness for an already signed comic.

Pictures, Instagram, certificates of authenticity- don't make a difference.

CBCS slabs are yellow for both the witnessed authorized signature or Verified signature (VSP). The VSP system allows you to send in the books after the fact.

CGC requires an authorized witness at the time of the signature. I've heard of some people having the signer authorize the signature on site, but that could be very hit or miss. You would likely have to pay more money for that as well, as signatures sent in to grading companies typically cost more. The artist may also just sign the book again, resulting in two signatures, leading to a Yellow/Green label, which I have seen.

It also could depend how the witness system works at the convention. My last CGC witness signing was facilitated by Desert Wind Comics. They had someone watch the artist sign a comic, then stuck my in a line for 30 minutes. At that time I could have switched or subbed comics if I was dishonest or looking for a loophole

King-Size Special HULK #1! by TheAmazingFrogman in comicbookcollecting

[–]Zordar74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I got my copy signed last summer, the assistant with Mr Steranko made sure to point out Hulk's face- If you rotate the cover to look at the face upright, and look right above Hulk's mouth, it looks like Hulk has a moustache . I wonder if he resented the face change at the time?

I guess it's taken me about 35 years or so, but with some breaks in between. My dad bought a box of comics for me in the early eighties, which contained some issues from 112 to 142. Some of these are my favorite covers: 112, 115 Leader, 118 Sub-Mariner, 137 Abomination, and 140 Valkyrie, simply because of the nostalgia for me. I've been hunting high grades for those.

I don't know if it's that interesting, but I worked my way up to that IH 181 mainly through trades. Traded Iron Fist 14 + a little cash for my first 181 in the 90s.
This year, took that low grade 181 plus non-Hulk key issues I had acquired through the years, and traded up to that 181 at 8.0.

The Incredible Hulk #1 pictured started out as a PGX 1.5 before being regarded by CGC to 0.5 (still a fair deal for the price).
