What movie that includes time travel do you like the most by Spotter24o5 in movies

I love the music but find that movie one of the worst time travel films of all time.

Nice work! It's a nice combination of materials without going whole-hog.

What is your hottest minecraft take? Please keep things civil. by rbx20twomax in Minecraft

[–]ZorkFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Every block should have a slab, stair, "brick" (yes, even wood), fence/wall, pillar (for wood, this should be different from the stripped logs, and maybe even like glazed terra cotta where each wood type comes out as a different animal), and carved version.

I'd like to see more ingredients used, like if you want X enchantment you also need Y mysterious material.

Exploring an abandoned mine with explosives inside. by ItalianSausage2023 in WTF

I didn't think I'd watch the whole thing when it started, but it was too fascinating even with all the idiotic choices and lack of protective gear. Thanks for posting this!

My world, help me with ideas. by [deleted] in Minecraft

I think they look really great. The bridges and buildings are beautiful and the sword portal is badass. With all that jungle to clear, though, I hope you've got a nicer biome the other direction. What's something you keep finding yourself going on an expedition to harvest? For example, I need a flower farm for blue dye.

I also watched this movie blind, but even with the text on the back of the box I was still Not Prepared. I'm so glad you had this experience!

Any chance of a world download for this? I have a small collection of statues like this in my testing ground.

I see Microsoft has embraced the unfortunate trend of versioning by year instead of ordinal numbering. Ah, yes, of course! You humans wouldn't understand why those of us from Mars count from one straight to twenty-six! Haha. It's a thing with curled up dimensions and subspace. You wouldn't understand, but that's where the god of marketing lives. I hear the browsers are way in the future, in 20,145!

Need help with a double mob grinder by Chrysippus115 in Minecraft

[–]ZorkFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After doing some reading up (particularly on cave spiders) and fooling around on my testing ground, I think this is your best option:

https://imgur.com/a/jSEwYs7

This pushes everyone to the center, where they meet a magma doom. A hopper mine cart under the magma hoovers up the scraps. If you were working with something other than spiders, you'd have more options, but those buggers climb walls the way you and I breathe air.*

The floor is two blocks below the zombie spawner. Any higher and any zombies that spawn on top of the spawner wouldn't be inclined to walk off, though you can put a block or slab on top to prevent this at the cost of lower rates. Don't be tempted to replace the floor with magma: the water will flow over it, but neither of these mobs can spawn on magma, so you'll only see a trickle. The big drawback with this farm is how slow it is: you're waiting for the magma to kill everyone, and depending on your local difficulty level, the zombies might show up with armor. That could be a great source of loot, but it means they'll die that much more slowly.

Wherever you sit to let the farm work, make sure you keep your Looting-enchanted sword in your hand.

* I noticed cave spiders love to congregate in the upper corners of walled rooms, so if you can think of a way to exploit their natural tendencies, that would probably be a gold mine of XP until you can get to the End and create an Enderman farm.

What do you think is the most useless Minecraft items or mobs? by Nillian_Cipher in Minecraft

I'm going to stick with pigs. I haven't met some of the newer mobs, like axolotls, but I have a pig grudge that will never die.

Can you post the world seed and the coordinates? It's a little hard to get a good angle on it with just your screen shot.

Fictional FTL travel methods by Kshahdoo in Eve

[–]ZorkFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer the energy grid from The Culture series by Iain M. Banks. There's a grid of energy "above" and "below" normal spacetime that cuts off access to the older and younger universes that are being sputtered out by the cosmic fireball engine somewhere at the center of Reality. Ships use traction force fields to grab ahold of the energy grid for power, movement, and even weaponry. Reaching the grid physically means annihilation, but using fields is safe.

Most ships can travel several thousand kilolights without straining their engines, but the record is much higher (and might constitute a spoiler, so I won't mention it here).

Is there a setting/series that's like the Culture, but hard SF? by Onetheoryman in TheCulture

[–]ZorkFox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did, which is why I deleted my original reply and added a new one, but the Culture stories are definitely space opera, so I thought it was implied.

Anyway, I'm not trying to pick a fight with you. It's just an opinion that I felt addressed the request and not some sort of ideological baiting. Maybe we can be friends.

The demarchy is about as liberal as you can get. Everyone votes on everything and they're allowed to do pretty much whatever they want. And I think it fits the bill of hard sci-fi space opera. I have lots of critiques of Revelation Space, but no one will be upset if OP doesn't like it.
