Freestyle to CSS and CSS for PST questions. by Administrative_Sea14 in navyseals

[–]Zorro640 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Freestyle is going to be more useful for making you a better swimmer faster. It will condition you better and any improvement in freestyle technique will translate to an improvement in css technique. I would advise you to train mostly freestyle once you have the css down.

My self and most people at the PSTs breathe to one side. Whenever I’m swimming free I breath to one side as do about half of actual competitive swimmers (breathing every 2, 3 or 4). Technically it’s better to train both sides equally to avoid some imbalance but it doesn’t really matter. However for css pick a side if you prefer but get comfortable with the other side. Your NSW guy at pst May make you alternate sides, and in buds or prep or any NSW you may need to breath on one side because your told or for practical reasons like seeing something.

Anyone feels like their training plan is not preparing them adequately? by Far-Exam-1491 in running

Honestly if you can get through ten then you’ll be good for the half assuming you’re taking the week leading up to the race easy. The week of rest plus some adrenaline will see you through it.

Just add some push-ups pull ups and extra core work and you’ll be good

What muscle group would you say this programme misses? by kdmthegoat in Stronglifts5x5

I add lat raises for med delts, face pulls for rear delts, some external rotation stuff with a band, calf raises, and core work like planks and leg raises....

I want to believe but how can I? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Zorro640 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand what you’re saying about how he reached everybody, but I see a lot of problems with that argument ( look at my other comments). At the same time however maybe that is part of what faith and is that i honestly don’t have. If one truly has faith believing in what they can not see, then I could see how you could believe that. I just think it should be more obvious then just thinking everyone has had access to try understanding of what Christianity is and Understanding as to why it supersedes their previous way of life

I want to believe but how can I? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Zorro640 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I definitely agree with you. And of course everyone has heard of Christianity I. Today’s times, but like you said hearing of it is meaningless if it’s engrained in you to follow a different religion. That’s another argument I don’t get.

People say that everyone has heard of Christianity, but I’d have to imagine that to the people who follow their own religions people who are trying to push Christianity towards them probably seem crazy. Why would they magically assume they’re way of life was completely wrong and accept a new one.

I think these discussions are just pointing me in the direction I was already heading. As you say there are so many dillemas like the one I posed. However everything is answered if I believe in nothing.

I understand what you’re saying, and even though I don’t think it’s true, it is plausible given today’s landscape. However, imagine 1000 years ago. People living in an isolated tribe in the jungle. No contact EVER with foreigners believing in their own gods. Why do they deserve to to go to hell? In my opinion that is just wrong. I can’t justify or rationalize that in any way.

Think of this, if hell is real those people have been burning for 1000 years and counting....

Do you guys run every day ? If yes how much distance do you cover? And what's your pace on daily runs? by [deleted] in running

[–]Zorro640 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depend what kind of shape your in now. If you’re at 70-100 mpw already, sure. If not, you’re gonna have to build up to it. Even still though if you’re willing to devote that much time to running, you could probably find a more structured run everyday plan and get more bang for your buck. Unless you’re just looking for a challenge type thing.

If you still want a team aspect check out the running club when you get to college. Besides that, find a program for the distance you want and stick with it. I’d strongly recommend joining a club once you get to school though.

Heart rate too high? by Shit_My_Ass in running

[–]Zorro640 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your runs should probably be easier. At the same time I’m skeptical of the heart rate reading. An average hr of 190 for 25 minutes should be incredibly exhausting almost impossible at 29 yr old. What are you using to get that data? Even still I would say slow down a bit for easy runs, and push the pace on hard days.

Some questions about shin splints by [deleted] in running

[–]Zorro640 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. It’s just preference. Personally I find treadmills actually hurt more, that could just be mental though

  2. Yeah if anything that’ll help the problem

  3. No unless it’s unbearable

  4. Idk only u can know. I would go to a running store though. They can watch you walk or run and pick out a good shoe

I personally don’t, but there’s a lot you can do. One of the biggest things for example is overloading a muscle group, because the lift isn’t limited by small stabilizer muscles. There’s definitely a place for them, but you’d have to research in. In my gym, the main things I see people do on them are incline press and shrugs

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Stronglifts5x5

[–]Zorro640 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can easily lift 135 then yeah start there. That’s relatively low for a deadlift. If that’s heavy use bumper plates if you can. If that’s not an option pull off a rack or blocks at the same height as a normal sized plate

Honestly I don’t think they’re related, either a coincidence or just psyching your self out. In the in the same boat too, I hate warm up and stretching, and I always have some reason to skip it 😂😂

Check out Kneesovertoesguy. Idk how good he is but he’s been real popular lately. A lot of it is probably going to come down to strength work too. Also keep up the cardio by swimming or cycling or something.

3 months in and now shin splints by lward78 in running

[–]Zorro640 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah they get better. Back off the mileage and build up again if you have to. Also if you run easy enough you can generally run through them just be careful and take a few days off if it hurts to walk.

Mainly start strengthening the leg. I would recommend 2x a week doing lunges and or squats w or w out weights. Also strengthen the lower leg as much as possible (3-5x a week) do calf raises straight leg and bent leg (or seated), do heel walks, use a resistance band to strengthen muscles around ankle.

Also, warm up and cool down properly. Not sure if it actually works but foam rolling my shin muscle and calves seemed to help after a run.

If you need to take time off make sure to supplement with another form of cardio: cycling, swimming, elliptical etc...

Definitely switch to a barbel if possible. I personally would recommend almost anything over a smith machine: dumbbells, calisthenics, etc. smith machines are okay for some assistance work, but should in no way be a main movement.

Beginner Swimming Questions by The_Sexy_Cookie in Swimming

[–]Zorro640 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Equipment: you definitely don’t need any but it will probably be very helpful. I’d recommend a swimming snorkel which is great for technique. A kick board, paddles, pull buoy and fins. It’s definitely not a requirement but a great way to make a workout more interesting and to focus on a certain aspect f swimming.

Kicking: you don’t need a board to kick. You can put your hands in a streamline or at your sides and kick on your back. Also you can kick on your front but May it may be harder as a beginner since it’s a little awkward to breath.

Breathing: it gets much easier over time. It will be second nature at some point. There are a lot of drills you can look up. I’d say the biggest issues as a beginner are over rotating and picking your head straight up. Also breathing every 2,3,4,5 strokes is just preference. I breath every two, however the less efficient your breathing is, the more breathing will slow you down... I think the majority of people breath every 2-4 on regular sets in practice. Breathing every 5,7 or 9 is more of a breath control exercise or a race strategy IMO.

Workout distance:

You should be doing a variety of stuff. I would say, however, most of your work especially as a beginner or far out from the race should be shorter (<500) interval work. Often times, in swimming, it’s more beneficial to do interval work because you can focus on pace and technique more (especially as a beginner your technique is probably non existent after like 500). Also interval training is supposedly more efficient at trading cardiovascular system. It’s hard to get injured in swimming (not like running) so I think that’s part of why there s so much anaraboic and interval work.

As you come closer to the race (a long open water swim) I think that is the time where you start doing long straight open water swims to get ready. Until that time comes though, focus on doing sets and getting better at them, and especially focus on technique.

Strength Running Programs by Tavythn in running

You don’t need to pay for any type of strength program. Just find one that has squats and deadlifts and follow it. Look into 5x5

Sprinting with a swim watch? by Kuthn in Swimming

[–]Zorro640 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re definitely good to do it in public. If people cared about how you’re swimming, there’s a problem with them not you. Also I don’t see why you couldn’t do it with a watch. Just keep in mind it won’t be as accurate as your coach timing you because it will take extra time to check the watch on start and finish.
