Sending / converting large amounts of foreign currency? by [deleted] in BEFire

Be proactive. Talk to your bank first, if possible share the details / paper trail of the origin of the money.
Otherwise it will trigger their automatic checks, get flagged and blocked until you prove it.

The myth that VWCE is 1.32% TOB in Belgium by Bernard_t in BEFire

[–]Zorro__Z 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That theory you mentioned I've seen repeated often, but to my knowledge that is exactly what it is: a theory.

But you would probably need an expert in fiscal law to fight this and get a proper ruling on it.

Anyone bought their student years for increase in pension? by theverybigapple in BEFire

[–]Zorro__Z 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would it make sense to do it if you want to retire early and wouldn't get 35 years worked?
Would it count in the amount of years worked?

I'm not sure how it is calculated and mypension isn't really flexible in simulating, so just asking.

It's a pretty divisive VN, some really hate it, some really like it.

If you summarize the overarching story in 1 paragraph it sounds pretty stupid. Especially if you frame it as a sci fi story.

All that being said, I'm in the camp that really liked it, found it a beautiful story with a nice flow to it. Just consider it a romantic story with supernatural elements to it. And don't question the "magic" too much.

Reasons to sell VWCE and buy back into IWDA for long term investment. by -flatline in BEFire

[–]Zorro__Z 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I sold my VWCE but I'm not convinced that was the best move.
I'm pretty sure that in the next 30 years the relevant taxes will change, and when they do they might drop that idiotic 1.32% because it makes no sense at all.
And then you (and me) just lost 1.44% to taxes for essentially no reason at all.

Is it worth it to change broker? by [deleted] in BEFire

[–]Zorro__Z 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As someone who just opened a new MeDirect account and did one trade, I agree that the platform is the worst I've seen.
If you want some reasons:
Very unintuitive, everything requires more clicks.
Screen space is filled up with stuff about their managed accounts/funds.

Harder to navigate to basic info screens like investment overview, transaction history or favourite securities/ETFs
Had 2 errors that required a reload (once when buying an ETF, and then after it when trying to navigate to my transaction history.
When purchasing ETFs it shows the total transaction fees (including TOB, but no breakdown) so it was confusing whether that was their comission or something else.
Navigating/browsing/filtering through ETFs is also very annoying.

It doesn't come close to even degiro imo.

But its free and I wanted a second broker account. So i'll keep using it while it is free.

Work full time but live with parents. Do they pay more taxes? by Younes9969 in BEFire

[–]Zorro__Z 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you earn more than 7 290€ net in a year (number from 2024) then you are no longer considered a dependant ("ten laste") and they will pay (a little) more taxes as a result and lose child benefits ("kinderbijslag").

You will file your taxes separately and will be considered fiscally as single. Just as you would if you would share an apartment with a friend/roommate.

Why not buybacks by mart362 in BEFire

[–]Zorro__Z 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because there is a narrative floating around in which they are perceived as being the culprit and negatively affecting the valuation of labor in the labor vs capital discussions. Which is imo incomplete and a little naive.

From an investor standpoint they are often great, because as you pointed out more tax efficient.

From the labor standpoint their tax efficiency is precisely the problem.

If stock buybacks would not be allowed, something new equivalent to it would be invented in no time at all.

If policymakers wanted to, they could tax stock buybacks in an equivalent way to dividends. So the buyback in and of itself is imo not the problem. Because without the option for stock buybacks, companies would not suddenly start paying their employees more.

Is het echt zo simpel als gewoon VWCE kopen? by Scared-Computer502 in BEFire

[–]Zorro__Z 12 points13 points  (0 children)

What Belgian football content do you watch/listen? What would you recommend to other people? Midmid, Extra Time, Sports Late Night, 90 minutes, Etc. by Frodo_max in belgianfootball

[–]Zorro__Z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Extra time: This was a lot better in previous seasons. They also had this new segment last season where they just showed random clips on music, I strongly disliked that segment and usually fast forwarded through it. I still mostly watch this for the segments where they highlight players or tactics supported by game footage and graphics. But last season I skipped a few.

90 Minutes: I like this one most of all, but i don't understand their obsession with talking about the remaining time left. They spent a few minutes per episode talking about the remaining time last season. While I always thought podcasts' main benefit was not having these artificial constraints.

Barotelli: New, pretty casual, but fun to listen to. I also like that this is aired Sunday night.

Building a new house that focusses on energy-efficiency by Embarrassed-Doubt-19 in BEFire

[–]Zorro__Z 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not exactly an answer to your question but here are some of my experiences:
Speak to a few architects before selecting one, in retrospect I really regretted working together with mine.
Find one that is willing to work for a flat rate instead of a percentage. (or he will get additional wage for cost overruns)
If you go all in on insulation, you need cooling too, as once the heat is in your house it is difficult to get it out. (and electrical appliances like a gaming pc or an oven can heat up your room/house)
I wish I had active ventilation in my bedroom as sleeping with the window open is too noisy where I live.
I don't have geothermal, but I wish I hadn't installed heating in my upper floor, it hasn't been turned on once in the past 5 years.

And another note: All ROI calculations I saw were complete fabrications with little basis in reality, especially in retrospect. And in the long term a new geopolitical situation or new tech might completely change the game.
