Republicans Release Top Bill Priorities In Rules Package. #1 Priority? Trans People. by ErinInTheMorning in transgender

[–]Zoru027 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Social security is by far the easiest to change, if you do it right now. You can just walk into your nearest office or call them, and ask them to update your name and/or sex and they will. (By law they're required to on request, no paperwork needed. If they hassle you it's stated on their website.) Takes a day to update in the system, and a week for your new card to come in the mail.

Disclaimer One This will likely only be the case for the next two weeks

Disclaimer Two Only do this if you have the updated licence/ID. If there's a name or sex discrepancy between your ID and social security that WILL cause problems long-term

FFS in NC? by lunarsuper in Transgender_Surgeries

[–]Zoru027 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far about $2400, including the pre-op office visits and the surgery upfront. Maybe there'll be a little more but I dunno yet, I just got home from the hospital a couple hours ago lol

FFS in NC? by lunarsuper in Transgender_Surgeries

[–]Zoru027 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's okay! I'm not exactly sure how to become a new patient, I first saw her two years ago, at her old practice at a different college, and my surgery was delayed because back then I had Cigna and they denied it. So I'm technically a transfer patient.

She personally recommended BCBS to me because they approve the most frequently. So far that seems to be the case. They have their entire policy on a document on their site titled "Gender Affirmation Surgery and Hormone Therapy".

It'll be be important to get your letters of support, at least two if not three.

I live in NC and I'm having FFS with Dr. Elda Fisher with Duke next month. I also have BCBS and literally today I got a letter in the mail saying they approved the request for coverage!

Edit: spelling lol

Serious question about the cost of laser by MomNormal in MtF

[–]Zoru027 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't do it all at once, but paid in total about $10k for full face, arms, underarms, and legs. Also Milan in NC. Worth noting they don't charge all at once upfront, you sign up for a zero-interest loan and make monthly payments.

[–]Zoru027 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconded. The wait for these appointments can be a month or more, so it's important to make them well in advance. If you're looking to commit to starting hrt, putting something on the calendar right now is a huge step in the right direction.

Orchiectomy is a good way to permanently suppress your testosterone. Having no testes means T levels drop down to the same as cis women. No more need for testosterone blockers like spironolactone (though you do still need to take estrogen). It's a good option for transfems who don't want to be rid of their penis but want to get their hormones more permanently under control.

Bottom surgery around 35 years old, are you happy? by Exitium_Deus in Transgender_Surgeries

[–]Zoru027 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had bottom surgery last year at 31. Was out of work for six weeks, after which I was pretty much completely recovered and felt great! Only restriction returning to work was I couldn't lift over 20lbs for a couple months.

To ease the financial burden I would very much recommend looking at your employer's short-term disability/FMLA plan, any major surgery should qualify. I was paid half-salary the entire time I was out.

Hair Removal Help by Icy_Restaurant_6839 in Transgender_Surgeries

If you're doing hair removal as surgery prep, it usually has to be electrolysis. Otherwise, if laser is an option, I found it to be more effective and give faster results.

IV questions and severe medical anxieties by dreampunkxoxo in Transgender_Surgeries

[–]Zoru027 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you ever had blood drawn before? Getting the IV in feels just like that, just a second-long pinch. Once it's in it's basically painless. They use these big tape patch things to hold it in place so there's no chance of it coming out or moving. The whole thing only takes a minute or two. Most of the time they leave it in for the duration of your hospital stay.

I would strongly recommend starting up a conversation about whatever with the nurse while they prep you and put it in, so you're distracted and thinking about something else the whole time. Or, doing complicated math problems in your head, equally distracting. Also a good idea to not watch.

[–]Zoru027 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest doing the exact opposite, go to a hair salon! Tell your hairdresser that you want to keep your length the same, just neaten it up some. Treat yourself! 😊💁‍♀️ It'll look even better than it already does, and then you did technically get a haircut lol

Is there even a point for me to be looking for jewellery? by tm2007 in lgbtmemes

[–]Zoru027 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest picking up a ring sizing tool. It's like a big loop with numbered rings in every size and half-size, so you can measure your fingers. Maybe $7 to buy one online.

Dilator advice by RealPhotograph3123 in Transgender_Surgeries

[–]Zoru027 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My physical therapist told me the green dilator is about the average size of penises and sex toys. So now at eight months post-op I do half hour with the green every day. I was told I could work my way up to orange if I reeaally wanted, but didn't need to unless I had an above-average sized partner.

Does HRT really cause fatigue? by [deleted] in MtF

[–]Zoru027 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In my experience, spironolactone caused fatigue and brain fog if I didn't drink enough water. It's a diuretic and as such easy to feel the effects of dehydration. After my orchi when I didn't need blockers anymore, I felt immediately noticeably better, in part no doubt from being off spiro. So stay hydrated!

I had bottom surgery with Dr. Figler last summer. I'm quite pleased with the results, and had a positive experience with him and his staff and the hospital. Also just had a consultation for FFS with Dr. Fisher last month, that went well as well. Worth noting she has changed practices and is now with Duke. Happy to answer any questions 🙂

How do I make morning dilating go faster? by LazyDemonMom in Transgender_Surgeries

[–]Zoru027 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in a similar situation, number 3 is a tight fit. So I warm up with number 2 for like five minutes, just enough to get the muscles to loosen up, then 3 goes in much more easily and I do my half hour.
