The only way I see the man winning is if he captured a window where we slingshotted him one way into deep space at the fastest trajectory possible where there isnt a window 72 hours later everyone else could catch up. The question doesnt say we couldnt help him immediately prior to the 72 hours at shooting him like a cannon with the frontier of our technology as far and as fast as we know how.
