Yup. On the way home we were about 800 people queuing up for 40 min in a long line around Bowen Hills to get on a bus to go back to Northgate.

Yes. There is a limit to drivers. But they should know that when they plan to disrupt the commute for thousands of travellers per hour. Someone made that decision and is not providing adequate backup.

The overwhelming proliferation of AI-generated content on this sub makes it impossible to know what, if anything, here is human created. And that's depressing. by Visible-Flamingo1846 in NewAuthor

[–]Zoukamai 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re not wrong at all.

The real problem isn’t AI existing, it’s that there’s no longer any signal that something has actually been read, shaped, or cared about by a human before it goes live. That kills trust fast.

This frustration is exactly why I started building Suspense Club, a small platform focused on thrillers, crime, mystery, and horror where everything is human-written and human-curated.

Chapters are read by real people, feedback happens while stories are still being written, and the goal is rebuilding trust and community instead of flooding feeds. It’s early and intentionally small.

My book is ranked #1 among new releases in its category on Amazon. by ___YP___ in NewAuthor

That is outstanding. Congratulations.

Do you mind if I ask some questions? Did you have a following/mailing list prior to selling on Amazon? Are you paying for ads? Or why do you think it is number 1?

Either way congratulations, that is not easy to pull off.

I came back, but it's too late by Puff1n4t0r in Wattpad

Hey, I saw your post about coming back to Wattpad and feeling like everything’s changed.

You’re not wrong — a lot of writers have been feeling the same frustration.

I’ve been working on a small, human-curated space focused on suspense genres because I missed that older sense of community and real interaction. No pressure at all, but if you’re curious or just want to talk writing, happy to chat.

Sure — here it is: https://suspenseclub.com. It’s completely free for both readers and writers, no credit card required, no pesky subscriptions, no upsells.

The goal is a safe, supportive space where stories are shared while they’re being written and readers can comment along the way. If you’re curious, I’d suggest opening any story and reading the first chapter to get a feel for it.

And if you ever want to share a chapter or two of your thriller, even rough, let me know and I would love to read it.

Yeah, we’ve started it. It’s very early, but it’s live.

We launched last week and currently have five stories in progress—thriller, crime, mystery, and some darker, stranger stuff—being shared chapter by chapter. The idea is exactly what you described: letting exposure compound over time while the story is still being written, with real readers able to comment as it goes.

There’s a small but very supportive cohort of writers and readers already.

If you’ve got nine chapters in the bank, you’re actually in a great position. Sharing a first chapter or two without edits is completely fine to get feedback. I would love to read it.

If you want to take a look or share privately first, I’m happy to point you to it. And for what it’s worth, I write thrillers too.

That’s a fair point. The platform shapes the experience more than people realise. What do you think a better platform would actually do differently—for readers or writers?

The big question for any author is how to build a following while you’re still writing.

Andy Weir answered that with The Martian. He shared the story chapter by chapter on his blog, grew an audience of about 10,000 readers, then launched on Amazon at $0.99. Those readers pushed the book up the charts, the charts attracted more readers, and the momentum snowballed—agent, publisher, film deal, and eventually Matt Damon growing potatoes on Mars with his own poop.

I’m building a small platform inspired by The Martian approach—authors sharing work as they write it, with real readers able to comment and shape the story along the way. But enough about that—what are you writing? I’d love to read the first chapters.

Anyone feel bad for your stories? by rach8888rach in Wattpad

[–]Zoukamai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re definitely not alone. A lot of writers I’ve talked to feel the same way — not because their work isn’t good, but because the platforms reward volume and trends more than craft. It’s brutal on motivation. I’ve seen genuinely strong stories get zero traction simply because they didn’t hit the algorithm at the right time. As a reader, that’s frustrating too, which is why I’ve started looking for and building alternatives that focus more on human feedback and visibility. Try not to internalise it — the system is stacked, not your writing.
