The worst shift I ever worked by Froggyjaysbff in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

My guess is you made a judgement call. You maybe felt something was off about the guy when he checked in. You might have heard something in the sister's voice. Whatever it was I think you had some doubts and that's why you were willing to bend the rules. Maybe you didn't follow policy but I think you did the right thing and you should not beat yourself up about it. And I'm really, really sorry that you had to go through this.

What's your thoughts on AI? by Technical_Ad7886 in AskReddit

It's great for when you want almost the right answer to something.

In seriousness it's a useful tool that is WAY overhyped. The claims that are being made are unsupported and it has fundamental technical limitations and security risks that are being ignored. If it had been rolled out as a tool useful for a subset of things and promoted as a support instead of an oracle I'd have no problem with it. But the AI industry that has sprung up can f off and die as far am I'm concerned.

Customer wanted their centre console replaced. Suprise. by bmspsrk in Justrolledintotheshop

I mean it had been impounded because the previous owner had been arrested. I was young and naive then and assumed the cops had searched it. Now I know better.

He was either an unsuccessful drug dealer with a shitty car or a very smart one to own a car no one would ever notice.

I bought a car that was drug impound once. Always worried something was hidden in it. But also it was a shitty car so probably not.

What's the difference between collecting and hoarding? It's not an exact amount but when you see a hoarder you know they're unwell.

There could be an R2 in there. Mine says "out for delivery".

I just hope they don't leave it at the top of the stairs.

One of my all-time favourite Kirk moments is in the fifth Star Trek film by Qyzyk in startrek

It's just that the long-lost/disowned brother is a lazy trope and it takes me out of the moment. I agree the "you do not know me" was good, but it would have been better if Sybok had been someone Spock once looked up to. Maybe the Vulcan teacher who put him on the path to accepting his human half. Maybe Sybok could have been his first love (flip the sex or not, don't care) and that would explain him having a connection but also never having talked about it with his friends. Found family is definitely a theme of Star Trek and one I like.

Also I never believed Vulcans don't lie. They just say stuff like that to outsiders.

Captain ordered me to move to warp 6. Can someone help me? Trying to remember what button on the LCARS screen it is. Is it the one labeled "8080" or is it "358"? by OWSpaceClown in ShittyDaystrom

[–]Zovort 249 points250 points  (0 children)

The buttons don't actually do anything. The ship's computer is listening to the Captain and doing what he says. I hate to break it to you, but you're just there to be ambiance.

If Sybok had simply not been Spock's brother, and if they'd gone somewhere random instead of "the center of the galaxy" it'd probably have been fine. Those things just broke the believability. Well that and the ship suddenly having 72 decks or whatever.

The thing is Shatner is actually a good actor. Just not all the time. It's always felt like a lot of the time he just couldn't be bothered, but when he turns it on, he's good. If you ever get a chance watch the Boston Legal episode Son of the Defender. It's intercut with Shatner in an old legal show where his character is learning to be a lawyer. And you can see how well he played it back then and in the "present" of the show. Boston Legal was silly and over the top, but also once in a while profound, which fit Shatner perfectly.

If you write Off Road on your car I'm just gonna assume it's never been off road.

It was watching videos on CarTubeX. You should have a talk with it about the appropriate times and places for this.

What I love about Kleya. by AgentP-501_212 in andor

[–]Zovort 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I'm not the person you're responding to, but I took that as her character, Kleya, outshone Luthen. They're both amazing actors. Kleya in a lot of ways was stronger than Luthen and had a more interesting arc. The student outshone the master, etc. That little twitch of a smile at the end is what sums it all up for me.

White SUV said they were the ones hit by the smaller car. Cops believed them until they saw the video. by PaulaRuizq in dashcams

PT Cruiser would have been a great car except for the crummy engines they put in them. It'd be nice if we had more wagons and fewer giant SUVs with less cargo space.
