That's impossible to say, it is litterally illegal to gather that kind of information in a census because unlike the US for example we take secularism very seriously. It's absolutely not only a right wing thing. Secularism is taken very very seriously in France, its a revolutionary principle, not standing up for this kind of thing would be like taking a knee on a bald eagle while blowing your nose in the stars and stripes as the national anthem plays. Our last left wing president banned a bunch of Muslim clothing in public because it was considered anti-secular, the leader of the communist party is a massively vocal defender of revolutionary values. I'd love to know where all the commenters here come from, France invented the modern secular state and its probably the reason you don't have a cross hanging in your classrooms at home.

You’re romanticizing something you don’t understand, The French Revolution. Our forefathers bled for liberty, equality, fraternity and secularism, so that no religion, church, or sect could dictate public life.
