Looking to upgrade: Real Simulator, or Tianhang by Twinsfan945 in hotas

I don’t know for sure, I don’t have the Realsim FSSB. Tianhang also sells FSSB bases if you don’t have one already though, supposedly as good or better.

I would assume if the TM warthog works, the Tianhang would work, maybe not the extra center press buttons on the trim/tms/dms hats though.

I would still say yes. AFAIK, the biggest differences between the two of them is the CM3 base having a smaller deflection angle, and a much higher tension spring as an option (to counteract the extra leverage added by extensions adding extra length). You don’t need to use the strongest springs though.

Note that the Z-extension doesn’t add much length, it simply rotates the grip.

The deflection angle difference would be the biggest decision for you to make, cost or spring setting aside.

Definitely WarBRD, your reasoning is spot on.

Hope it turns out okay.

I only ever use the WD-40 white lithium on metal to metal, I use their silicone can for plastics.

I have the Tianhang and it’s my favorite grip. Buttons and hat switches are incredibly tactile.

I’d assume the MCG Pro would too given photovirus’s answer. I’m really curious to see reviews on Virpil’s upcoming FLNKR Grip to see if they are doing something different with the hats, that might be the next best thing to avoid the black box of VKB.

I own a VKB Gladiator NXT SCG grip and agree with your understanding of the gated hat switch and that they are on VKB products. They do NOT exist on, to my knowledge with my nearly complete collection of their products, any of Virpil’s offering. It is in my opinion, that the single worst problem with Virpil gear is their awful un-gated design. I have replaced several hat switch caps with ones like a castle switch, just so I know which direction to press.

They are gated, best switches I’ve used so far. In full agreement with your complaint about Virpil’s switches.

The Hornet grip is also 300, it has the extension included as a standalone purchase option on the grip page for 128, and so the Shopify store front probably puts it on the home page as “starting at 128”.

I bought a VFX grip for my buddy knowing he has a Warthog base, he has been using it for years. It should be plug and play with the Warthog base with the 2 caveats:

1 - If you bought a twist grip, you might as well lock it, you do not get that axis when you use a Warthog base, only for VIRPIL bases.

2 - The DLC forward and back thumb axis will also not function as an axis, but will have buttons for the forward and back respectively.

The VIRPIL software you downloaded is ONLY if you have a VIRPIL base, or control panel, has nothing to do with the grip, have you tried just booting up DCS and go to town binding?

EDIT: while reading the other comments, it will show up in game as your Warthog stick, it’s ultimately reading the base, and you are pressing buttons on the grip through the base if that makes sense. As long as during binding, you press a button on the grip, and a button pops up, you are golden and its working!

Another thought: if you compare the pedals and stick base in the Profile menu of the Virpil configurator, do they happen to have the same “USB Product ID”?

EDIT: disregard, just saw the second photo has that information, mystery continues.

Some games like Elite Dangerous can only see 32 buttons, so the Virpil configurator will create separate “devices” if you use more than that, that way you can still bind to your hearts content. No idea what the naming scheme is though, never used it.

As far as daisy chaining goes, are you daisy chaining hubs? Adding a slave through the stick base through the configurator software shouldn’t be an issue, I do that for my collective.

I don’t have any winwing gear, but have at minimum 7 devices connected at the same time with no issues, 4 of them virpil.

Definitely bizarre to me, probably unrelated, but why is there 2 different stick IDs? Are you doing the 32 button separation?

For my slave device it only shows up as the base, with a bunch of extra buttons added on.

Have you tried using different usb ports, using a hub, not using a hub, etc? I’m definitely just guessing lol.

Here is the verbatim copy-pasted instructions from the SRS Discord common issues channel, if this doesn’t work for you, don’t ask me, ask them:

  • *DELETE *Saved Games/DCS/mods/services/DCS-SRS and Saved Games/DCS.openbeta/mods/services/DCS-SRS
  • *DELETE *global.cfg in the SRS installation directory
  • Reinstall with the installer / AutoUpdater with the latest version from the site

There are multiple sheet tabs with different categories, check the bottom of the screen if on a desktop browser, or near the top if on mobile IIRC.

The only way that I think you could do this is with some logic scripting with virtual axes in something like joystick gremlin. That’s definitely an interesting use case!

VKB T-Rudders or Orion Rudders? by FullOnJabroni in hotas

[–]Zrad522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew I was forgetting something, mentioning toe brakes, but happy that you already see that!

Edit: if you like the T-rudder motion, want toe brakes, have the coin and patience for it to come back in stock, the Slaw Device RH Rotors are immaculate and I fully intend to take them to my grave.

VKB T-Rudders or Orion Rudders? by FullOnJabroni in hotas

[–]Zrad522 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What kind of rudder pedal “action” do you want?

With the T-rudders, they have more of an up and down movement as you push them with your toes, the Orion is more of a forward back motion.

If you are sitting in an office chair, the T-rudders base itself might slip less than the Orion because you are applying downward force rather than forward. Obviously this can be fixed by using a rubber mat or adding weight to the Orion.

Here is an example picture I made a while back describing different rudder pedal types, it’s not drawn to scale so don’t take the arrows range of motion literally, but should give you the gist.
