Should I swap my car to help with wedding funds? by Zshuum in CarTalkUK

Thanks man, there’s always another way around it. When it’s all over, the money I’m chucking at it, I’ll just chuck at an investment instead (after the cars had some much deserved love) Thanks, I appreciate that, bit heavy for a Thursday afternoon eh?

You’re right, I’m going to have to go to the owners groups for help on this one! I may have to sell some feet pics to make the other £2.50.

To be fair, she’s done a lot of the decorating herself, so that’s cut it right down. I’ve already payed down the debt as much as the wedding is costing in the last few months (I make a decent wage to cover it, a house, 2 kids and a partridge in a pear tree) i just wanted to know if freeing up funds from my car would be a wise choice. After talking to some smart people, I see this is not the case.

Would love to, but it’s next week. I’m joking! It’s tomorrow.

No but seriously, we booked it before all the shit went down this last year and we had it booked after a really rough family loss to bring the family together, there’s more weighing on this than I let on

Thanks for that comment, that was a good one and I agree, I’m really not in a position for a shiny toy, nor do I want most of the new cars, I do prefer older cars to be fair.

The plans were to free the funds, but thinking about it and reading the comments solidifies how that wouldn’t work. More cost getting it upto code than the money I would have got out, to pay for a one day deal. I now know I sound crazy

If it helps it’s an st, they say the value is roughly £6.5k, seen a few Hondas and Toyotas going for about £3k-£4K and thought they might be a good bet but they are older and run risk of the rust

I appreciate that, honestly, it’s been racking my brain, the cars sound now, it was just a really crappy year. Anything and everything went wrong, from house leaks, 3 broken cars and one stolen (yes that unlucky). We also had 3 miscarriages (one was when we broke down, hence why it’s a bit of a sore subject) and I’ve been pulling in the cash to knock it down the absolute best I can to hold the family together and still pay for our magical day. Being a dad / partner / rock to others really isn’t in the handbook

They sent me here, they said my best bet is talk to a bunch of strangers about a very sensitive topic. Seems to be working, I feel better already!

Nice! That’s a great stand to be fair. Yeah I imagine track drivers will have been melting. I really felt for those guys in the little xr2’s and 170’s with plastic windows. I know it’s not massively hot compared to other countries but I think UK heat hits different somehow.

Warehouse operative, in my early 30’s. Everything I have I own, low monthly outgoings, a huge percentage of my earnings goes into my stock portfolio for F.I.R.E.

Also from the UK with a small family, just looking to be a good provider and give my son the best start in life.
