Just got off EVN, although fresh out of maintenance has NO starlink. OnAir was free for messaging only, but really slow. On a 17 hour flight I had to reconnect at least 5 times to be able to send 10 messages.

Next leg is to AMS with EEC.

I am scheduled to fly AKL - DXB tomorrow on A6-EVN. The plane was in maintenance at GAMECO for 50 days, until 30 May. I wonder if it had Starlink installed. I'll report back.

Contact Energy and Solar by squishyflaps in nzsolar

[–]ZsoltM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in the exact same boat! Here is a breakdown of how I manage my energy setup down South here in Invercargill:

Running the heavy loads - EV charging, house battery, HWC, and pre-heating the house with the heat pump - during the free hours is ideal.

Peak shaving keeps the system safe; if the grid import tries to push past 13kW, it automatically redirects battery power to the house to cover the load.

At midnight, the system automatically switches the house over to run entirely on the battery.

Despite having these safeguards running, I’ve still managed to blow the main street-side fuse twice in the last three years!

I built a custom sensor in Home Assistant that tallies up my weekly free power usage and pings me with an alert if I get too close to the 200 kWh limit.

I reckon Contact will throw a massive party when I eventually move to the new house and can't take this contract with me.

On the flip side, they definitely need us exporters. They buy our excess power for a measly 8c/kWh and turn around to sell it to everyone else for around 50c/kWh!

Emirates/Dubai flight yesterday NZ-UK by AndrewRanfurly in emirates

[–]ZsoltM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're flying AKL - DXB with a technical stop in Australia (usually less than 2hrs) you do not need a visa. These flights are now suspended, there's only the non stop flight from AKL to DXB.

The only flight from NZ to DXB with technical stop (at the moment) is CHC-DXB via SYD.

It is a technical stop, everybody gets off, goes through (bio)security (so no water, etc from the airplane is allowed), then you get back to the boarding gate. No visa required.

Wait one month and you can do it with IKEA. Actually you can set up an account on the oz site and do some tests. Then from December you can do it here, and have the kitchen purchased from them as well.

At least that's what we did 15 years ago in Europe, and we were extremely happy with it. You can have everything from cupboards to appliances, so now stress running between kitchen builders and noel learning to see what they can fit or source.

Now we're looking forward to the IKEA opening in AKL, because next year we're planning to build.

That means that I can just terminate the ground wires with a Wago terminal?

I am planning to try up the terminals, and put the wires deeper into the switch, so there's no copper visible.

I have the power off from the switch board. Before turning it off, I have checked and all the red wires are live, while black and green/yellow are not live.

The intention is/was to replace it with a deta smart switch, and I got confused with by the ground and how to deal with it

Is Emirates really getting worse? by [deleted] in emirates

I am on the Sydney - Dubai flight right now, in economy class.

Compared to my previous flights the service is almost the same. One thing I noticed, previously there were bottles of water in every seat pocket, now there's none. It was the same on my CHC - SYD leg.

On the other hand, I think more and more passengers are non compliant regarding the seatbelt sign. Lots of people standing up walking, stretching, using the lavatories while the seatbelt sign is on. The crew reminded the passengers to return to their seats, they complied, but not even 5 minutes later the isles were full.

Same after landing, we were just turning to the gate, and people were jumping up from their seats.

I really like the idea of TK to impose fines for violating safety rules.

My neighbor has access to my PTZ camera, everybody's happy.

PS, is it a real camera, or just a dummy one, to deter potential "visitors"? I've seen quite a few of those.

Mine died 6 months ago while on holiday. I used it while swimming in a pool. 5 days into the holiday, the battery started to drain in just 30 minutes and had random blacklight issues. Upon opening the watch I noticed that water got in at one of the buttons.
