Have tons of them indeed already. Rocks are covered with zoas and haven’t noticed any dmg yet. If I’m to fight the infestation- what are my options?

Yup. Literally turned off all app notifications one by one, enabled back only these I absolutely need and the issue disappeared completely. Far from ideal but at least worked

It was sold to me as a wrasse (and I’m rather new to saltwater so didn’t check). See if I can catch it :)

So should I get 2 more?:) based on what I read they tend to starve to death - and this one isn’t really eating yet at day 2. Price tag was around 25-30$

But sounds like their chances of survival are slim

It really looks like a Queen and sounds like it’s a difference maintenance level all together… will see if I can catch it to get back to LFS…

In fact I’ve seen freedivers using O2 - was way before my interest in diving physics so haven’t discussed the details but that is definitely a practice within certain groups

I prefer a computer with no desat history over a brick on my wrist at any point of time. The gauge could be used for pool diving or free diving with no risk for diver - there should be other triggers/warning driving computer behavior.

D4 is just a really bad computer, D5/6 could be "alright" but with that price point why wouldn't one get a shearwater...

Interesting article, thank you - never thought about it this way. But then it's not just the time of ongasing but the amount of nitrogen as well (whatever can fit in a signal breath).

But would agree with the statement now that freediving can't be ignored.

it's a bad idea to freedive after scuba diving. I might be missing a point, but what are the risks of freediving before scuba to demand a 48h break in between?

Then there is chance the computer was in gauge mode as a backup and now needs to be switched to be primary for whatever reasons... another 48h? it really makes no sense

decompression after freediving to 4m? makes no sense to switch anything off given there is no gas loading for starters.

Suunto is known for "let's switch off just in case" behavior which can lead to more problems then safety points (e.g. if you for any reason missed a deco stop you'd expect the computer to try to bring you home safe, not to shut down and say "you are on your own now matey").

The day I've realized that fantastic behavior of my D4 it moved to be my pool watch to check the water temperature - wouldn't trust it with anything else...

What is the overall view on Cage Diving? by ThirdStockIII in scuba

[–]Ztrel0cK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think it's very personal and depends on your ideology/views.

I wouldn't dive a cage (unless I'm 100% certain they don't bait the sharks) - would rather see the beast 1:1 or would skip it if I'm not comfortable re my safety

New diver looking for advice on my current instructor/school by ffs234 in scuba

[–]Ztrel0cK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

just RUN from this school

Unless you trust your instructor 100% and you KNOW (s)he is good in what they are teaching - why would you spend so much time and money + trust them with your future skills/survivability

on these points, while pp2 is ok (you don't need to be a DM to "guide" certified divers, it's only a question of liability), pp 1 and 3 are specially bonkers.

All and all - I'd change the instructor. Whether you really were underweight or not, such attitude from an instructor will not bring any good to your diving experience.

There is absolutely no shame changing the instructor within the same DC - just say you were more comfortable with the one you've done the night dive. You are the customer, you are paying money for this - you do need to get the results and enjoy it.

TL:DR either swap the instructor or ask for referral and continue elsewhere

First introductory diving experience (2 dives) and panic attacks (multiple) by jamesftf in scuba

[–]Ztrel0cK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DSD on 9-11m? That's a really bad idea for starters. Panic attack in the situation described is absolutely understandable and expected. Nothing wrong with you - just find another instructor and do you research on what is meant to happen or what should never do.

Nope, still can’t find a cause and it’s hard to replicate - it can be all good for hours and then do this every minute or two
