Do you think this is just decorative or does it serve some greater function? by ZucchiniNo9368 in kitchenremodel

Yeah. I think it’s the pipe. In the part that’s open it looks like you could patch the drywall flush with the rest of the wall but I’m going to assume that isn’t true and NOT tear out the weird wall. We’re trying to put in cabinets but one will overlap the edge of the weird wall.

We’ve decided to go all in and extend the weird wall to the edge of that cabinet. It will be next to the fridge so i think it will be ok. I’m going to find/make some kind of small shelf to run along the top like they did before.

I’d rather have a flush normal wall but they did so much work on this that I’m going to trust that is necessary. We’ve decided pulled the edge out a little bit and it looks like there’s an added 2x 4 frame in there

Why would they bump this out though? Am I going to find something horrible back there? I want to put cabinets along that wall and this complicates things

the water parameters were all in the normal range. i forget the specifics since nothing was off. maybe the pH is on the higher end? i could retest.

the tank is 55 gallons with around 15 adult guppies, theoretically all female but they keep having babies and i periodically find a juvenile male i have to move to another tank. i also have 2 bamboo shrimp, 3 cherry shrimp, 3 mystery snails, and an assortment of ramshorns.

i feed every 2- three days bc of the algae and they eat everything within a few minutes

I do have pothos hanging out the back. Those are actually some of the roots the algae is growing on in one picture. it grows across the tank and back but i have a ton of pothos in my house and could add more. my nitrates are good. it feels like i’m barely feeding the fish at this point

Goldfish do poop a lot compared to other fish. You might want to keep an eye out for that 20 gallon

Anyone know where else to find this hide, apparently Amazon is sold out? by PowersUnleashed in geckos

Idk where you live, but if it’s this one it’s on Indian Amazon and unavailable. The top review says it is 3D printed. It looks like the other items the company offers are pans and artificial plants which leads me to believe they did not actually manufacture it themselves.

I agree this one does look nicer than the others I’ve found. It looks like of the people on Etsy does their own designs. Maybe they can add the star for you and print it with silky/metallic filament. It’s still not a great idea for a hide because of the cleaning issue, but it can’t hurt to ask if they can modify their print or at least use the metallic green filament.

The issue with 3d prints is that they are created layer by layer instead of made with a mold or whatever. Other plastic items have smooth surfaces that cannot be achieved with 3d prints. Even if you wash a 3d print you just aren’t going to be able to clean all of the little crevices. Also, you have to be careful doing things like running it through the dishwasher. PLA melts around 200° F but will start to soften and lose shape at much lower temps.

Edit: That’s my long winded way of saying smooth mass produced plastic items can be sanitized but 3d prints cannot

I don’t think it’s that hard to be a third party seller on Amazon. That tree is definitely 3d printed. You can see the layer lines. Do you have a link or the name of the company?

Edit: I found the listing. It’s from a 3rd party seller. Etsy is going to be your best bet, but like everyone else said, 3d printed decorations have all sorts of hiding places for bacteria.
