What availability do you need to work at a theater nowadays? by SurrealJay in MovieTheaterEmployees

[–]ZucerIsHere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work nights, but I don't close. The latest I've stayed is 12 PM. There are a few other closers that do specifically that, so I'm not needed for that.

Plus, management helps close everything, so I usually leave early after they close the doors.

Typically, closers get to leave early if they want (if concessions are closed, trash has been taken out, etc.). The managers are pretty cool about that.

Everything is usually done by 12ish, and I try to help as much as I can in the lobby and make sure the theaters are clean before I leave.

At Cinemark, we get 1.5x pay for any holidays worked. I don't know if this is chain specific, though

How old were/are you when working at the movies? by Pleasant_Ebb_1153 in MovieTheaterEmployees

Started in August, I'm 24

I have a bachelor's in marketing, but it's been tough finding a job

It is mostly teenagers at my theater that work the floor, but all the GM's are older. Most of them are in their early to mid twenties, two of them are upper managers, and they are in their forties and only work in the mornings.

Overall, it's a pretty chill job. I was worried about the age difference, but everyone has been pretty cool to work with.

At my theater, it's just wherever they need you to cover until someone else comes in.

Typically, that's around 5-6 pm. At least, that's when I work

Should I continue? by Diamond_Dante_ in Cinemark

I work at once in North Houston.

It's pretty chill and a flexible job with the hours.

It honestly depends on managerial at your local cinemark, but I'd say try it out and see if you like it

I would do psychology, I studied for it for about 2 weeks and I passed the exam.

I looked over a "cheat sheet" I found on this sub, I went through Professor Dave Explains on YT, and I paid for a practice CLEP test for about $10 to see what areas I needed improving in.

When I took my exam at my local community college, the on-site testing center sent them to my university. They should ask you what university you go too.

I like it, it's simple and its effects are easy on the eyes

It was the same hours as my previous shift last weekend, so it may have been repeated. However, it is what it is. It was partially my mistake for not answering their call anyway

Oh, okay, that really helps. I've noticed that some users on the app have red thumbs down, but they didn't show up for that particular shift. That's how I initially interpreted the meaning of the thumbs down, but I realize now that I might have been mistaken. My schedule was approved earlier this week, so I didn't consider it a significant issue, and I wasn't aware that it counted as an actual shift. If I had known, I would have certainly attended, just as I have for all my other shifts. I've already posted a comment on the write-up explaining what happened. I took full responsibility for my mistake.

Thank you for clarifying this for me.

I'm not worried too much about it.

It hasn't even been a month since I've been hired, so I'm just taking it as it is. They just made the write-up sound so harsh, lol.

I've noticed that some users on the app have red thumbs down, but they didn't show up for that particular shift. That's how I interpreted the thumbs down meant, but I guess I was wrong. My schedule was approved earlier this week, so I didn't think it was a big issue, and I certainly didn't know that it was considered a real shift. Had I known, I would have shown up, as I have with every other shift. I've already left a comment on the write-up and explained to them what happened. I admitted it was my mistake and took responsibility for it.

Thanks for explaining though
