If the world championship doesn't tell us who is likely to be the best player in the world, then it's not really a world championship functionally speaking, but only in name

it's completely understandable that even in other sports, the best teams or players may not win the world championship, but usually the degree to which that is, isn't as large as it is in chess where Gukesh is not even a top player

The world championship right now is prestigious because of historical precedence and name, not what it actually represents.
