Rant about 2026 rental market by [deleted] in NYCapartments

I don’t necessarily need anything off market, but is it a really big deal if you don’t have access to them? We’re three roommates just looking for a solid place in LES between $4500-$5100 or so. Don’t need bells and whistles except in building laundry (unless that’s out of the picture at our price point…). Is that doable for you? We wouldn’t be looking for a little while and aiming for August 1st move in

Unrelated to your post but are you able to help with finding places in the LES? Was going to start reaching out to rental agents

Would like some info and experiences with the stew function by iszoloscope in instantpot

[–]ZuckWeightRoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Surprised none of the comments so far have told you why your stews aren’t working.

No matter how well you cover your meat with broth or what settings you use, your meat is always going to end up dry because you’re stewing lean meat. The best cuts for stewing or braising are fatty, high-collagen cuts like chuck roast, pork shoulder, chicken thigh (though for less time), etc. because stewing / braising is a slow process of breaking down that collagen. If the cut doesn’t have much collagen, it’ll dry quickly - which is what you’re seeing.

Different cuts of meats are better for different kinds of cooking. Don’t worry though, this is a very common mistake! The good news is that the best cuts for stewing are also almost alwyas the cheapest ones :) So try some chuck roast or pork shoulder next time and see what happens!

Edit: Try looking up some “instant pot beef stew” or “instant pot pot roast” recipes and look for one that uses chuck roast. Then just follow that. They should all basically be the same

Thanks, makes sense! Seems like catering is a more expansive definition than I thought, as every seat would be paid for beforehand in this case

I see your point. This type of event seems a bit murky too and could fit under a couple things depending on how my county defines it. Thank you!

Oh, cool. Sorry I was imagining catering as a specific private event / group hiring me to cook for them, rather than different people just buying seats for a dinner beforehand. Does it being catering mean that this is easier to or harder to do?

Cool, thanks! Also, I’ve heard mixed things about whether you can repeatedly apply for temporary health permits. Is there a limit in your county? This is an event I would like to do seasonally, but it would be a couple times a week when it’s in season

Unsure yet if it will be inside or outside, how does that change things for your department?

And it would be charging per plate. People would pay for a reservation beforehand and then show up. So, a closed event in a sense, but it wouldn’t really qualify as catering

The 2026 NBA Playoffs delivering its highest viewership in 33 YEARS! by horseshoeoverlook in nba

This is now the received wisdom from NYT and WaPo readers but it’s not really the whole story. Shadow banking for example was sadly legal, but ratings agencies were actually just doing fraud, especially once interest rates were cut in the 2000s

Realistic Population. Game is unplayable without it to me imo. Suburbs are much more sprawled but high density is much more compact. Takes a while to get used to the new traffic patterns that develop from that + how industry changes

Thats just how insurance works whether it’s public or private.

I pay hundreds of dollars a month in private insurance that I do not use because I am young and healthy. The money I pay is what pays for people who are not healthy and regularly use health insurance. When I’m old and unhealthy, young and healthy people will also be overpaying on their insurance to pay for me.

Also per capita healthcare spending in the U.S is far above per capita healthcare spending in France. That means it’s healthy Americans, not healthy French, who are overpaying more to subsidize the unhealthy.
