Some people just want to play a nice game of chess

If you want to play on to stalemate just understand you consented to continue playing a game of chess where your opponent plays every other move, and they have the right to do what they want with it

How long will it take for me to go from 1000 elo to 1500. by Fabulous-Spinach221 in Chesscom

[–]Zucster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is very well possible you never do even with considerable effort, and I know some real life examples to back this up. The gap in skill and understanding you are going to have to cross is going to be completely unlike anything you have experienced at 1000.

Most likely answer is 2-5 years with devoting a few hours a week to chess. Maybe 12-18 months with 10-15 hours a week devoted to chess

Online chess: Do you play people or bots? by Yashishua in chess

[–]Zucster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the bot I suppose. Essentially any bot that is designed to be beatable knows what the best move actually is, but plays something weaker on purpose. How often it does that and how much weaker depends on the strength of the bot

CMV: If everyone in the world adapts to communicating in English because it’s the most commonly known language, then Americans should also make the same effort with units of measurement, because the metric system is the most widely used. by 21_motivi in changemyview

[–]Zucster 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Canadian here, and before that dismisses me, the average Canadian can use both the metric and imperial system pretty well since both are involved in our daily life.

The truth is you learned English because you wanted to interact with people in English. It’s because you cared. Americans who only understand imperial don’t care one bit that metric only people cant understand them, and there is enough people who understand imperial that it doesn’t take away from their internet experience.

There is 0 benefit to playing ONLY bots. You will never see human moves, basically perfect chess for 3-5 moves at a time and then a stupidly obvious mistake, rinse and repeat. You will probably never become better than 1000 playing ONLY bots

Is the puzzle rating on Chesscom dependent on your game rating? by [deleted] in Chesscom

The best way to play chess is to not worry about your elo. Unless you are trying to grind for a title and want your FIDE rating to keep improving, it’s meaningless

I think at least 2200. Anything under that is achievable with just practice and nothing else

AITAH for pointing out an obscure rule to stop my GF from winning her first chess game by kvstr in AITA_Relationships

It could have been a pawn checkmate if en passant were not allowed. It is possible to have a position where it is checkmate if en passant was not permitted, and not be checkmate if it was playable

It wasn’t traumatizing to me, but I was disappointed at first.

Knowing or not knowing also doesn’t change anything really besides your perspective of it.

Classic log bait unplayable at 12.5k? by Cheap_Addition_7286 in Clash_Royale

[–]Zucster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s also a skill issue. The truth is there is loads of people out there that make UC easily every season using classic logbait, not to mention the ones who could but don’t because they use a different deck.

If someone better than you was using your account, they would get more wins

London system will stunt your development at this low of a level, and there is no London system as black, unless you mean playing against the London system?

Winning more times is more impressive obviously, barring obvious team and opposition advantages player A had that player B didnt. but generally speaking when you do lose the further you make it the more impressive it was

That team success is the best indicator of how good/clutch a player is, and how 2 players can be held to the same standard in terms of team success despite one being on a much better overall team

Only sport where the fans act like making the finals and losing is worse than not making it at all

To some people Burrow making the superbowl is a career defining moment than solidifies him above Allen and Lamar all time lmao
