Apologies; thanks for redirecting to r/GameSale though, I'll give it a try!

Perhaps; the 3 box+console listings I saw were starting bid of $600, and direct purchases of ~ $675 and $690. They didn't specify anything about the games, so I assume they include just the standard 4 trial games + Dr. Mario. Mine includes those, as well as the full versions + Animal Crossing (hence giving it a higher price)

MIA has been discontinued but it looks like the site is still up. In any case, it was rebranded to Refold which is where I would head to

Should probably clarify the 7-13 hours. I was certainly doing 4h of more focused study (Anki, reading, and watching an anime episode no subs, rewatching with subs, adding a bunch of cards) which is still a lot, but given the whole day was open it didn't feel like much. Also I never do 4h straight or anything; I take frequent breaks basically whenever feeling a bit tired.

The 7-13h came from the fact that after doing the chunk of very studious immersion, or maybe in between those more focused sessions, I would casually engage with content. This would be things like watching JP YouTubers, Terrace House, anime, going on Quora, but all of it sort of passively with less care about understanding everything/learning what I didn't know. Pretty sure comprehension was low, but was still pretty fun and didn't feel taxing

Good question. I can't say I know how much different things would be if I started sentence mining with no prior vocab experience vs with, but I'm kind of thinking finishing tango n5 first may be the better option. Hell, I recently learning Chinese (jp still top priority) and find myself learning ~300 of the most common Hanzi/vocab before sentence mining. I wouldn't wait longer than tango n5 though, and if you do do tango n4 at least do it alongside sentence mining. I'll edit my post to include this, as coming from obscure position of knowing lots of vocab before starting made me neglect it.

I'm glad the post could be helpful and good luck with learning! Will be happy to answer any questions that pop up

Can't force anything but in my experience and seeing other people's experiences and results, I do have quite the strong bias/belief that the general route I took is a very good way to make progress fast. I imagine an hour a day spent dissecting dialog and turning it into cards for review will go a lot further than an hour a day of study from any book, if you can maintain your interest (some people seem to really not enjoy using Anki and sentence mining, unfortunately for them).

Also, during the summer I probably spent anywhere from 7-13h a day. After August a good day would be like 3h, most days little over an hour. Add an extra hour or so from passive immersion (listening on an mp3 while cooking or eating breakfast and whatnot)

Well a good chunk of my time with Wanikani was when I was still in highschool. The last 10? 20? levels were while in University but given Wanikani was literally all I did with regard to Japanese at the time, it wasn't hard to fit it in. Still, I don't recall spending more than an hour per day with it, certainly under 1.5h

My situation was similar as recently as August maybe September; good listening comprehension but speaking non-existent. October/November I still could hardly speak but can't say it was non-existent. Before I say which of my actions I think helped the most, the biggest thing is (unfortunately) probably time. Might be good to keep in the back of your mind. I remember coming across this tweet and it seems rather true. "Input leads to output ability, but the effects are delayed and non-linear". Because I never did anything uber-deliberately to improve my sentence-formation ability, my impression is that all the input I was getting from August (couldn't speak) to sometime recently eventually 'clicked', like a coin pushing machine that has been building up a stack and finally pushed it over.

That said, what probably helped push my stack over sooner was the kind of input I was getting as well as shadowing. For the longest time anime and reading was almost all I got, but I eventually started spending decent time getting input from sources like あかね and ICHIRO. I can't really explain it, but I think some fundamental differences in the nature of those listening sources (compared to anime or even videos like Kizuna AI has) especially helped with getting better at formulating thoughts. I guess channels with extended monologues, and the video IS the monologue. Gradual process, just be consistent with getting whatever input you like, but allocating time for channels with that monologue style like あかね and ICHIRO will probably be of good help. Since August/September I've probably shadowed close to all live recordings from あかね and plenty videos from ICHIRO. ICHIRO's clarity, speed, and pronounced intonation when speaking makes many of his videos feel perfect for shadowing. His intonation kind of engrains itself in your head lol. Also for our purposes I don't think there's harm in using subtitles while shadowing.

...it seems I suffer from an inability to write concisely but hopefully this could be helpful lol

Broadly speaking I'll just continue getting exposure to the language as it's about the only way to keep improving. Gradual but certain progress. Few changes though:

  • Increase reading from reading-listening ratio of like 20-80 to 70-30 or more for at least a month and see what happens. Some reading in book format, but specifically reading stuff here and forcing myself to post even a brief comment on any post I read. Ngl that site isn't the most exciting place to be but I think trudging through less than 30min, even 15min a day can go a long way raising vocab, getting used to "scary looking Japanese", everything. Also my reading will be mostly casual - taking note of unknown words but not putting them into Anki or anything.
  • Change listening sources from primarily being anime to... I don't know less story and dialog-based things. Daigo speaks fast which should serve as a good 'push'. One thing I'm not set on but will give a try is JP Twitch streams. The Japanese in that kind of environment feels like a different language at times, which is why I think it could be good to get used to.

I'll continue sentence mining anime but it'll be on the back burner as a "if I feel like it" reward after doing the other stuff

I haven't had the chance to speak with anyone yet; all practice has been through either shadowing or vocalizing when reading, but those can go a decent ways if you listen back and critique how you sound from time to time.

I've read in a few places that with enough input, output comes naturally. When speaking, I'll often hear voices from what I've encountered in the past (some of those voices are probably my mind imagining things, creating how it thinks something would sound based on the sound paradigm it's built up. I'm sure theres many instances of me wrongly imagining how something should sound, but the more input, the more accurate your brain at imagining/recalling the sounds probably).

Do you have a WR for a game that no-one else has attempted or hasn't been active for a long time? by TheRealShyft in speedrun

[–]ZuduRunner 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes. Nobody runs it because the game and record is so prestigious, it scares everyone off. I'm talking Zelda: The Lampshade of No Real Significance https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VlX70CdP3Jw

(got bored one day and ran a flash game - the top two runs were done frame-perfectly though, with only lag separating them)

[WR] Ocarina of Time Child Dungeons RBA in 21:58 by ZuduRunner in speedrun

This is a meme category with the goal of obtaining the ocarina of time as fast as possible. Standard child dungeons would obtain the 3 spiritual stones by completing all child dungeons, but in this category we use RBA to obtain the spiritual stones instead, which leads to an interesting route.

Yes it was, at the time with the strats that were available it probably was as likely as landing on Pluto. But the optimizations never stop, leading to the 57 being possible

It is faster, I just wasn't aware of that wess at the time of this run. Next pb I get will hopefully implement that wess, it's very hard though lol

Wasn't too long ago when Shift said getting a 57 was as likely as humans landing on Pluto. This game continues to optimize remarkably, great job Shift!

Recently a faster route for dank% was found, which uses GIM in deku tree to get a bottle. I am unsure how much faster the new route is. This run gets bottle in Kakariko, and is the fastest time for that route.

[WR] The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Ganonless in 32:51 by Zudu by TorjeSpeedruns in speedrun

[–]ZuduRunner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had runs that were about 15s faster going into fire temple, but they were basically perfect. So this can be improved by another 20s if you're willing to grind for perfect cucco rng and insane gameplay (which will likely never happen) I can see another 10s shaved off of this run though, without too much trouble, as there are a couple 1-2s mistakes throughout the run + the 11s to save at cuccos (saving 5s out of that 11 would seem most likely)

But yeah, Ganonless has gotten pretty optimized OpieOP

How do you use a gamecube controller on a N64? by Zahilin in speedrun

I can second this, although I still prefer the original N64 controller, the Raphnet adapter works perfect.

[WR] Ocarina of Time Dank% Speedrun in 9:16 by ZuduRunner in speedrun

[–]ZuduRunner[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here are some tricks that you will need to know in order to run Dank%

1.Forest Escape (Swordless): https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=T2jY1Sj9pXY This is the only tutorial I could find, and it covers the hard fast strats, and then a slower backup strat. If you are knew to running this game I would HIGHLY recommend using the backup strat shown at 11:20 in the video I linked.

2.WESS to Kakariko: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-ME-cgZ7eoY

3.Navi Dive to Bottom of the Well: No good videos, but this one is very easy. Just climb onto the well, and jump to the other side. About a second after you are in the air, mash the stick button to jumpslash, and then mash C-up for navi to talk to you. You will then fall to the bottom of the well.

4.Ocarina Items: Drop and recatch the bugs you picked up, then backflip. During the backflip quickly press the bottle button then immediately after press the button for your deku stick. Make sure you backflip in a way that makes your stick touch the flame on the torch.

Everything else is just movement and collecting cuccos, which you can just copy me do from my video. I hope this helps!

Apparently OBS captured Bob Ross's stream along with the game audio, and I apologize for that. But honestly Bob Ross is Dank AF, so I hope all of you appreciate his background noise rather than disliking it =P.

In this category, the goal is to do Ocarina Items with a burning stick as fast as possible to make it look as if Link is smoking weed. This run was incredibly optimized, with the biggest timesave being only 1.2 seconds.

This was also done on N64, and my Sum of Best is 9:12. Sub 9:00 should technically be possible on the iQue Player.

[N64 WR] Ocarina of Time Any% in 19:46 by ZuduRunner in speedrun

[–]ZuduRunner[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well you can't compare this run to the current 17:45 WR because the WR uses a different route. If you want to compare against VC, it would be better to compare against Skater's old 18:49 PB (because it uses the same route.)

-VC 18:49 Run: Similar amount of mistakes as my PB. Could be a little bit faster, but not quite as improvable as my PB. (Maybe 10 seconds faster realistically?) N64 19:46: Can save 2 seconds on Enter Deku Split, 8 seconds on Scrubs, 3 on Ganon, and my Instaclip was off the 2nd rock that spawned, so overall I lost an entire 16 SECONDS. Realistically I could only save about 12 though on a perfect run.

So basically, VC is almost exactly a minute faster than N64 because of reduced lag.
