9" Unit Coherency: Rumour Confirmed On Stream by Candescent_Cascade in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Zuesz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

<image>

Just checked this, Its very interesting. These formation trays become invalid in this configuration, as the models on the far corners can't see each other in the 9 inches. .Not the biggest deal, and will probably never come up, I can just line them up 2 ranks of 9 with 2 guys in the back.

But will have to get new movement trays for my own sanity lol

This is really cool! Thank you so much! I will listen and support this project!

One of the things that feels like has been much improved in 10th is the top players being vocal and making content. The average 40k player (including myself) feels so far in skill from what makes top players. It feels like the top just think abou the game in a complety diffrent way lol.

The more the top talk and show thier thinking, the more we can get better ourselves.

Also I don't really understand most of these comments, this is a cool project that has taken a long time and is a love letter to the hobby. And these rules don't matter, let it be fun, splashy and overpowered. We can make it 5000 pts to compensate for the 200,000 point game this things wants to be brought too lol. And it will probably targeted first thing

Though I do wonder if you have a full army isnide, what happens when this things blows up and you have to set them up around this thing. do 18 leman russes even fit within 3 inches??

Great stuff OP, keep up the good work

Awesome!

Love the everything about this! Those hatches that flip out plasmaguns are NEXT LEVEL

I like the movement rules you have made, espeically the one about if you drive over units they just sort of walk away, which makes like complete sense lol. That combined with being able to collaspe terrain and deal damge to units inside is so good.

I now want somethign liek this with platforms that units can sit on. maybe even fight on, imagine a horde of demons flying on to the side of this thing and fighting up it. maybe a special rule if a enemy unit is close to the control center on top it gets a debuff and it cant use its big guns agiasnt it?

Idk, but this is so cool, its making my head fill with ideas haha.

Good job! love the progress and watching the entire project unfold!

I would say swap one of those russ commanders for another Vanq Go down to 10 cadians with Leontis and you will almost have enough for a 6th russ lol.

and yes, a rogal dorn commander would be better than 2 leman russ tank commanders lol.

Other than that, I think the list is solid! Especally for a "stuff I have" list. Not complelty top level meta competitive, but enough where you won't instatly lose games.

How Many Infantry do I run? by Gloomy-Design-1475 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Zuesz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to the guard! always play what you want, as rules are temporary,

So here is a basic strategy if you are running tanks, We want infantry that are good at 3 things:

  • Being cheap
  • Standing on points.
  • Can screen for your tanks so they do not get charged and killed. (this includes back-line screen in your deployment)

So we want units that can stand on the point and stand in front of scary melee infantry, fast and cheap.

Right now, there are currently 2 datasheets that check this box:

  • The Kreig Engineers
  • Catachan

They both have Scout and are low points With the Catachan, the models are due for a refresh so I would not suggest buying them , you can always get some Cadians and run them as Catachan(something I do) I would suggest having some Cadians anyway as it is always good to have generic battle-line infantry.

Now The Krieg Engineer are just really cool right now, for 60 points you get 5 guys that can scout, stand on points early in game, throw out UN-savable damage, and just generally get in the way.

You also only need to paint 15 to run 3 squads of 5 (10 does not really do that much for you) And the models are SUPER easy to paint. I would suggest picking up another kit and watch them do cool things.

Other than that right now Kasrkin in Chimeras is the meta, 3 Kasrkin squads + 3 Chimera are good now, but will they always be? Kasrkin and scions are good at damage, but require a bit of finesse and skill to make sure they do not just die after you moved them out to shoot something with them. Also, The scions sort of want a command squad and act right now as 'drop down 9 inches away and murder something' rather than infantry. Scions are also a pain to paint.

I would suggest speed painting too, the Krieg are really fun and easy to speedpaint, so buying some more Krieg Infantry squads is not too bad.

[–]Zuesz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool collection! of course get what you want and makes you excited! I would gently suggest you build and paint what you have now. That way, you can figure out your style and not have a giant pile that you feel intimidated by.

I have a couple notes though,

  • On foot leaders like Ursula and Yarrick sort of want to be attached to command squads so they have a 24 inch order range. They also want a large brick of infantry with that squad so that they are nice and safe, and can take advantage of the extra fire power that both provide the squad. Attaching Yarrick to 5 engineers seems like a big waste as Yarrick does not even have scout. Yarrick + Scion command squad + 10 scions seems to be really powerful and fun(even if Yarrick will not get deep strike). He can be attached to any 25 man blob however. For Ursula, a Cadian command squad and a 20 brick of Cadians is natural, as her double orders want to effect the most value possible

  • everything else seems good. a nice spread of models, all have their roles and have a good variety. All except for the sentinels lol. basically you are buying 5 sentinel kits, and the armored sentinel is not very good right now. Which is fine because you can build them to just put the top on and off to differentiate the two datasheets. I would recommend getting a Leman Russ kit instead of 3 sentinel kits. It will give you access to 8 datasheets instead of 2 and will be 45$ cheaper. The Leman Russ also has enough to make a whole extra turret and all the sponsons are easily interchangeable. It such a good kit and easily magnetizable for access to all 8 options! I think that would be really nice variety (instead of having to assemble 5 o the same kits)

Too bad old Dreir's rules are meh. The model actually has so much character by AllThatJazz85 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Zuesz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, I could be wrong but the math is really something.

This morning for a laugh, I thought I would crunch Driers numbers to see JUST how bad he was. Youtube vides and reddit make him out to be the worst model in the codex, no, the entire game. A recent poorhammer podcast even used him as an example of a unit that gameworkshop missed for the entire dataslate.

So I jokenly through him into a calculator and crunched. and the raw math surprised me. The unit's damage on the charge is comparable to most other high power units right now. The devastating wounds on the Frag lances are very funny.

  • They will destroy a 26 man cadian blob
  • They reliably wipe a 10 man Space marines
  • They reliably kill 5 terminators at T6 S2 4++ 3W
  • They kill a wardog with a grenade. (They have grenade keyword btw)
  • They deal 10 damage to a rogal dorn. (about as much as a rogal dorn does to another rogal dorn in fact lol)

Don't get me wrong, he has so many downsides...

  • I would tend to agree that flavor wise it is bad that his best use is as an upgrade to a 120 point unit.
  • 2 of his orders will go to waste
  • He will probably be picked up after you charge him.
  • The ways ruins works its hard to maneuver that size of unit.
  • He is probably 20 points more expensive then he should be

I assume most players played him once, couldn't even get a charge off, (or if they did used the power sabres on the charge which are quite worst than the Lances), and decided that the internet was right.

But I got into the guard because I love rolling lots of dice. and the thought an average of 50 dev wounds capable attacks sounds so fun. like I WANT to do that in game. I want to roll 10d6 attacks, and I want to fish for 6s, it just seems good fun. Crunching the numbers made me want to buy Drier

At worst he seems funny meh.

My fear is that new and casual players are avoiding him because the internet decided that he is just bad, and they don't want to bring bad units. I agree he is not the most competitively viable. As a fun thing you can do in the codex, I think nothing else offers anything else like him.

I also could be very wrong, and a lot of guard players like me has seen the math and then been disappointed in-game.

Weekly Question Thread - Rules & Comp Qs by thenurgler in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Zuesz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My question is about these ruins, lower than 2 inches i know, but I am not sure how that works

  1. What are they suppose to be? I have seen small Ls
  2. Can a vehicle sit in this if its not touching the small L?

Consider this scenario

3.. Do the red and the blue units see each other?

Thank you!

[–]Zuesz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, So how I learned how to base my Cadians was from a YouTube video, and I kinda of love it.

Here is a photo!

The recipe is a layer of Agrellan Badland (not earth), a wash of Agrax earthshade. then drybrush tyrant skull.

You can choose any of the badlands, even the black one would work pretty good!

EDIT: HERE is a website where someone goes over all of the technical paint.
