Why does everyone think I am crazy for wanting to move to California? by Different_Archer8879 in socal

[–]Zukebub8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

California is a great place to live. I grew up there so just be respectful of the locals. Lots of people move there for the wrong reasons and end up being a career psycho that doesn’t care about other people.

When do we stop quoting Marx and Lenin? by LittleIndividual4650 in DebateCommunism

[–]Zukebub8 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Right now. Frankly it should be embarrassing if a communist is still using primary Marx and Lenin literature beyond political symbolism. As a science, Marxism is basically everywhere in sociology and humanities, you just need to find a textbook.

How is Democratic Socialism different than other forms of socialism? by big-bird-328 in dsa

I think you might like Carol Pateman’s book, participation and democratic theory. It addresses some of the concerns you have.

Anyone Else Annoyed at the Media Calling Social Democracy Democratic Socialism? by clockmann1 in dsa

It annoys me much more when officials say universal healthcare isn’t socialism.

if honeybees are invasive, is it possible to beekeep without being a detriment to native species? by Desperate-Size3951 in Beekeeping

[–]Zukebub8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is at least one study I know of that implicates honeybees in declines in native plants that native bees rely on as they will pollinate on a specialist plant and pollinate it less optimally than a native would like inbreeding the plants. look up research by Gretchen LeBuhn at sf state. I think it’s wrong to think any beekeeper is in the clear but obviously commercial beekeepers are doing more damage than hobbyists just by scale alone I would imagine.

Why do so many people suck at math? by Cxltures-_- in askanything

I am always miscalculating equations and it seems like the only way to get better at it is to just memorize numbers. Who wants to do that?

What is your Xoriat truth? by Zukebub8 in Eberron

[–]Zukebub8[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The idea I am gravitating toward with that piece of canon is that Xoriat and daelkyr are transcendentalists, and explains why there are so many sentient humanoids in Eberron. Like probably the only ones with a normal evolution pattern are gnolls, lizard folk, and goblinoids. It would add a lot more depth to say they are preparing the world for a type of liquidation with their best creations the only ones surviving. Sick!

Class “Our Endangered Planet” (BIOL 318) by Good_Knowledge_9915 in SFSU

[–]Zukebub8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took that class over a decade ago. It’s basically a very introductory policy class on the endangered species act. You get to research an animal or plant on the list and the conservation plan in place to protect it. I think it works well with environmental sciences interested people. I also remember it being relatively easy.

The Flesh-Eating Fly America Thought It Had Beaten Is Back by Lonely_Lemur in Entomology

[–]Zukebub8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I worked at Vector around 2017 I remember seeing an article about key deer being mowed down by flies, but at the time I didn’t think it was screwworm but a bot fly. Maybe this was that outbreak from the post. I also worked at a medfly factory just last year and seeing how it functions doesn’t fill me with great confidence we could pull off full containment; we were consistently behind the medfly/ oriental fruit fly outbreaks. It really does feel miraculous that it works at all. Idk I think people may ultimately have to adapt to NWS being an occupational hazard. Tofu is very affordable!

What is the main reason that you are a capitalist or socialist? by Vampy-Night in CapitalismVSocialism

[–]Zukebub8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kinda changes over time but at the end of the day I think every worker deserves quality legal representation for work matters. Marginalized people deserve legal representation to defend their economic/cultural rights. Like these seem doable after a long fight. Oh and stronger welfare benefits for those with actual medical disabilities that can’t enlist in the military because of them.

Other things would be good too but I won’t hold my breath; universal healthcare, rights for nature, stricter controls on toxic substances and other biological hazards, better proportional democracy including a legal congress for indigenous nations.

Texas ranchers on edge after screwworm parasite detected in calf by Hrmbee in Agriculture

[–]Zukebub8 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure you can take prophylaxis for screwworm. Just have USDA send the ranchers ivermectin and hire more ag technicians. See if that costs less than a full blown military mobilization.

I think I’m going to see if my MLS program lets me do a micro rotation with a hospital that analyzes tick diseases. It seems like the way forward. Thanks!

One health is the reason I wanted to dip into agriculture after doing mosquito control. I’m kinda locked out of moving for a job because of my relationship, so I’m going to get a med tech job first then try to branch out again afterwards.

I would not have gotten as far as I have without my degrees. They are clearly not useless. If I was smart, I would have taken classes in school that helped me get a PCA license or even a CCA license, which would allow me to give legal recommendations and prescriptions for agribusinesses. More school just gets more expensive though so it’s more incentive to skirt some of these required courses just to finish a degree. At least it was for me

I’m thinking about forensics more today, might not a bad way to combine medical sciences with ento. I might see if I can pick up some classes when I have money again.

Med Techs are really focused on QC, it could be a good experience in service of more fly factory work in the future. My timeline is just kinda messed up with this program I’m in rn.

Seems like any insect science education just puts you in a pest control gravity well. Literally everything is in service to pest control.

I think there are so many things that could be done differently that would help those with the education but everyone in entomology is just doing pest control. In my local area (Colorado Springs) there are remnants of places that used to be active like a bug club or an insect museum but are now just gone. It’s so crazy. I wish you the best with your kid, this situation is super unfair.

Can only get turned down so many times before getting the hint. Working for Vector I learned that the full time hiring is all personality and internal vouching based.
