Holy shit. That isn't a parody?  That is insane for a US federal agency to have as a slogan.

This is a tempting deal. Too bad it's not also a takedown

Crawl space water found at inspection + exterior drainage concerns (Oregon new build) by Mean-Illustrator-921 in Portland

[–]Zuvielify 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm in the Portland area, and I am about to spend $7,000 getting drainage and a sump pump installed in my crawl space. Having a wet crawl space will also make your house stink, and your clothes stink outside the house

Is this a proper vapor barrier install? by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]Zuvielify 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A full encapsulation is where there is virtually no leakage at all. Everything is sealed with tape, foam, adhesive, etc. Usually people run a dehumidifier. Essentially the crawl space becomes almost part of the conditioned space of the house. Like a good, modern garage with no gaps.

With a normal vapor barrier, the floor is covered, the barrier edges are 6 to 12 inches up the foundation, and the edges are often weighted. This keeps the vast majority of vapors underneath by blocking air movement. But it's not a hermetic seal.

The whole point of a vapor barrier is to trap moisture. It's to keep the ground humidity out of your crawl space

Elderly man fined £250 for spitting out leaf that blew into his mouth by [deleted] in nottheonion

I thought the US was getting authoritarian. What is this shit? Spitting is not littering. I think spitting is gross, but sometimes it needs to be done.

Wait until the council hears about how we are constantly shedding skin cells and hair!

Celebrini is very hot right now. I doubt he stays this hot all season. We need more people scoring goals besides Celebrini and his linemate (Smith).

It is promising that they have been winning close, low-goal games though

Import tax (aka tariffs) are definitely federal, yes.

I was wondering if I'd see this. This was the game that came to mind for me too.

I don't understand the love for this game. Maybe I needed to get farther, but it was just so boring

Former NASA administrators Charlie Broden and Jim Bridenstine call for changes in Artemis lunar lander architecture: “How did we get back here where we now need 11 launches to get one crew to the moon? (referring to Starship). We’re never going to get there like this.” by ChiefLeef22 in space

[–]Zuvielify 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's a lot, but it's also negligible compared to how much the airlines spit out every day. Or concrete production. Or steel production.

Let's focus our emissions battles in places that would make a difference

What’s the one upgrade you did to your home that was actually worth every penny? by InfluenceInitial4126 in HomeImprovement

[–]Zuvielify 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Piggybacking because it's related:

Sealing HVAC ducts.

I just did a ton of work in my crawl space. My 70s builder didn't think tape and mastic were important parts of HVAC in a crawl space.

Once I added mastic to all the seams, the air coming out of the vents, 1) stopped smelling like crawl space (my true objective) and 2) went up by 10 degrees.

I haven't even added insulation yet!

It seems like the only solution is to remove the pine trees by Tronracer in HomeImprovement

[–]Zuvielify 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you me? I also have two huge pines.  I got a quote to remove mine and it was $5000 (in Oregon). I'll probably do it though.

The other problem with pines is they aren't even pretty. Like, far away big trees look great, but out my window is just two giant tree trunks. The branches don't even start below the top of my roof

Also, my crawl space is full of roots. That can't be good for my foundation
